Hi friends! Jordan here.
I realized today that I’ve never really shared the meaning behind the name Sonder.
Sonder is the realization that every person around you has a life as vivid, complex, and unique as your own.
This morning, I found a mourning dove with a broken leg in my front yard and ended up driving it to a wildlife rehabber nearby.
As I drove, I looked over at this little bird sitting in a plastic planter in my passenger seat and thought how silly it was that this was how my morning had started. Then I looked at the car in front of me and wondered… where are they going? How many people do we pass every day who are on their own unique journey? Maybe they’re taking a rescued bird to rehab. Maybe they’re heading to a job interview, visiting a loved one, celebrating, grieving, or simply trying to make it through the day.
That’s why I’ve always loved the word Sonder. It’s a reminder that everyone has a unique story.
And that’s exactly why I love photography.
Photography is storytelling. It’s preserving the moments that become someone’s story, big or small. Every photograph is a reminder that every life is worth remembering.
That’s what Sonder means to me.
Happy Wednesday, and wish this little guy luck on his healing journey!
