It's September 7th and it's been crazy hot, but the elk are beginning to bugle just a bit so cooler weather is on the way. Enjoy this 1 minute 40 second video of a bit of bugling and some rut action in Boxley this morning.

Since we got a couple of our shots in the Arkansas Living Calendar for 2027, we are seriously thinking about printing a 2027 Calendar ourselves this year. We haven't done one since 2023 when we did the Smith Barn Calendar. That one was a great seller. Thinking about a Buffalo River Calendar for 2027... What do you guys think? Would you be interested in one? I've been working on it....here's a screenshot of our thoughts on the monthly pictures.

Drop Tines and Wild Hogs in Boxley Valley

Saw a few interesting things yesterday evening at Boxley Valley. We found some nice Bull elk in velvet, 9 total, which isn't unusual for this time of the year, but we have 2 bulls in the valley this year with drop tines. First time in quite a while. There is one really nice bull with a single drop tine, and a smaller one that has some crazy looking double drop tines. Hopefully they won't knock those off when sparring and when the velvet comes off.

Also, first time in about 9 years we saw some wild hogs in Boxley Valley. Saw 6 of them up in the corner of the field near the Low Water Bridge. Pictures were tough because the grass was high and all you can see are their backs, but they are definitely out there, so take care. Enjoy the Pictures.

4 years ago today I took this picture of the elk calf in the weeds near the Ponca Low Water Bridge. This morning, got this one out in the field about 200 yards away from the spot of 4 years ago. Of course I wonder if the cow elk mother of today's young calf was the one I got 4 years ago. :) Happy Independence Day!! 🎆

Had a bit of a health issue over the past month and so we didn't get out as much as usual, but hopefully that is behind me. We did still manage to make 2 or 3 trips to Boxley Valley and it never disappoints. Here are a few shots from late spring 2026.

I especially like the ones with the Eagle who was being pestered by a Red Winged Blackbird... Took way too many shots of that. The way he was holding his wings, I expected him to give that blackbird a wing slap any second. LoL
