I was very blessed on this particular evening to witness four amazing phenomena. I caught an amazing sunset (to be posted later), and amazing moon set (shown here), the galactic center of the Milky Way (my last post), and the Orion Nebula (posted earlier over Bald River Falls). I was exhausted after it was over with. I think that I got an hour of sleep the entire night, but it was worth it. This moon set was taken from the Cherohala Skyway in Tennessee.

I spent last weekend up in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. I had several challenges occur along the way, but I enjoyed my trip. I intended on capturing the Milky Way and Orion at my favorite tree on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but due to road closers, I had to make other plans. I chose instead to shoot the Orion constellation over Bald River Falls in Tennessee.

It has been a while since I have been able to get out in my kayak. This was image was taken last Thursday night. The clouds were amazing. If you look closely on the right side of the frame, you can see over a hundred snowy egrets roosting for the night.

Foreground exposure is a single shot at 16mm, ISO 1600, for 4 sec

The Milky Way is a mosaic of 16, 60 sec exposures stitched together each at ISO 800 at f/2.8. A Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens was used to capture each image.
