Ever feel like you have no idea what to do the second the camera points your direction? Keep reading to find out how I get people feeling natural in front of the camera: A study in joy.
Saphire Estate Wedding.
my couples often tell me that they feel so awkward in front of the camera and that they have no idea what to do. i always respond with “same, and that’s okay”.
cause here’s the thing, awkwardness is just you not feeling at home in those moments. and that’s where i come in. i walk my couples through a functional posing system that takes them out of their heads, and makes them focus on each other. to lean into the joy that exist in their relationship. it’s a hybrid approach that blends photojournalism and editorial together.
it’s not, “do this pose that you’ve never done in your life and try to look natural”. that’s traditional posing and often feels stiff and inorganic.
and it’s also not pure silence where i just follow your lead. that’s photojournalism. some people can be completely at home in those moments, but if i were put in that situation, i’d be dying inside. so it’s not something i want to put my couples through.
what it does look like is me giving artful directions and prompts of things that you’ve done on an everyday basis. things that feel familiar, things that have you lean into your partner. in the same breadth, it gives you room for interpretation, and it’s that very space that your real relationship comes out.
it’s breaking the tension that comes from focusing on the lens, and noticing the small mundane moments of forever that only comes from the joy you two feel from each other.
follow me to continue to see ordinary people looking extraordinary on their wedding day.
oh, and if you’re a past couple and made it this far, i’d love for you to share your experience! or don’t. or call me a fake. that’s okay too, i guess. 🫰🏽
