In the last 2+ years I’ve seen the Northern Lights 3 times, and each time in the most unexpected locations!
The first photo is atop Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. May 10, 2024
The second photo was on my drive from Illinois to Georgia when I heard a report of higher than expected geomagnetic storm was hitting Earth. Taken at The Little River Falls Overlook in Ft Payne, Alabama. August 11, 2024
My first time seeing the Northern Lights will forever stand as the most unexpected events of my life. For anyone who remembers this was the same night we searched for the lost hiker in Death Valley. In between all of that going on, I wasn’t going to sleep so decided to photograph the Milky Way. Right then the Northern Lights appeared in Southern California! March 23, 2022
The solar cycle reaches its peak next year in 2025 so looking forward to some more of these unexpected chances to see the “Southern Lights”!
