Every year I take some time off from commercial work to capture annual themed shoots with the kids. They get to dream up and help art direct the production to align with their current interests.

I have to admit that after the first read of Harry Potter 1, I just couldn’t get into it. My takeaway was: "Wave a wand = fix every problem" and "Muggles, Muggles, Muggles." Years later reading all the books together with Mason was a treat! After completing each book, we would have a pizza party and watch the movie. We both enjoyed pointing out differences in the screen adaptation. I now appreciate and embrace this craze.

After canceled orders and months of waiting for costume and props, we were finally able to capture Mason playing quidditch, catching his first snitch as a seeker. I included a few BTS shots. I was able to bring in some mountains that I shot from our backyard. We kept most of the art direction true to the movie but we chose to deviate on a few details like the broom design. It’s always a family effort. Thanks Erin and Becca!

I'm a bit behind schedule with our yearly kid photos. Mason and Izla pick a theme each year for for their own custom shoot. Izla sure brought her signature intensity this year!

Often when Izla is getting pumped to tackle a difficult challenge, she will say, "I'll be brave and strong like Captain Marvel!" She sure is brave and (head)strong...but also fierce, determined, calculated, driven and supremely endearing. Once she figures something out, she refuses any future assistance. She is able to get nearly anything she asks of me by spoiling me with adoration and affection.

My sis grabbed a great candid bts that shows how all hands are on deck with these crazy shoots. Mason is holding a bounce for light, Erin is creating wind to lift the hair, and I'm directing Izla's eye-line to the snow-capped mountains. Thanks for the photo Becca and for making some last min alterations to Izla's suit! Mason was the patient supportive big bro as always.

The studio is still open for product + food shoots. With social distancing, clients are dropping off or shipping me product to shoot. We have many props and backdrops to make any home or studio setting work for your photo needs. We send previews of the shots so you can give input from the comfort of your home office.

Irish you a happy St. Patrick's Day!

We made the best of the kids being quarantined at home by exploring our back yard and doing a quick photo shoot. I was happy to capture these serene, gentle moments between the chaos of two kiddos being cooped up inside :)

It was fun to create this catalog cover for Kneaders Bakery. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep young kids happy for photo shoots, especially in the cold. Out of around 200 photos taken, this baby smiled for all but 2. What!? Of course my favorite model was my son who did an awesome job with his stage family.

Last week I posted a video of food nearly frozen in the air at 1000fps. This week I thought I would follow up with a photo shoot of food completely frozen in the air.

As much as I love using my high speed strobes that can freeze motion at 1/63,000th of a second, we wanted to maintain creative control with placement on this shoot. We opted to individually wire each element to show all the goodness that goes in to this guacamole.

If you pass by a Costa Vida, you will probably catch a glimpse of this poster.

How can January nearly be over? I may be late to post my best of 2019 shoots for the New Year...but I'm going to post some fun past shoots anyhow.

I compiled some of my favorite clips from a commercial we shot using the Phantom Veo 4K. This camera shoots 1000 fps at 4K on a beautiful cinematic sensor.

It was a fun challenge to move the camera 30 meters per second, while maintaining focus, without the use of a robotic arm.

Thanks to Mystery Box, Wilson Hansen, Tom Bean, Tyler Marshal, Gabriel Casdorph, Suzy Eaton and David Evanoff colaborating on this project.
