Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes when I’m not shooting for clients?

Sometimes I just like to experiment—trying out new lighting setups, testing gear, and seeing what kind of look I can create. In this video, I’m playing around with a more dramatic lighting style on a new backdrop to see how it feels on camera.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to team up with Christi Dodge and Michael Dodge of Dodge Media Productions to create videos highlighting local Hillsboro small businesses. I always enjoy working with these two amazing people and being part of projects that shine a light on our local business community.

We spent time filming at Bennett Urban Farm Store/Bennett Coffee Roasting Company and Su Casa Super Mercado as part of a project with HILight Internet Services and the City of Hillsboro - Local Government.

I love getting to use my skills to help tell the stories of the businesses that make our community unique.

Behind the scenes of today’s headshot session.

Former Hillsboro mayor Steve Callaway needed a new headshot for his run for Washington County Commissioner, so I told him to come on out to the farm and we’d make it happen.

Portable studio set up ✔
Good lighting ✔
Campaign photo ✔

I have to admit, I think it’s pretty cool when someone running for county office takes the time to come out to a small farm shop in the district and support a local business.

Yesterday was one of those creative recharge days. 📸
I had a great time hanging out with David Monroe and Cassandra Monroe, experimenting with new lighting ideas and just geeking out over photography.

I met David at a Chamber meeting a few weeks ago, and it’s always cool how those quick connections can turn into real creative collaborations. There’s something powerful about getting fellow photographers together, sharing ideas, and pushing each other to try new things.

Grateful for creative friends, fresh inspiration, and the freedom to play with light.

Today reminded me why I love what I do.

I had the opportunity to work with the Dauntless Veteran Foundation, and as a veteran myself, being able to support an organization that serves fellow veterans is incredibly meaningful. Veterans supporting veterans isn’t just a phrase—it’s a responsibility.
