Whatever your stance is on gen-AI in film production, we should be aware of how gen-AI is being used in productions.

"In total, producers said “Killing Satoshi” employed 107 cast members, 100 shoot crew and 54 non-shoot crew — fairly on par for an independent feature, although major blockbusters can employ thousands of crew members to bring them to fruition.

Liman is now in the midst of 30 weeks of post-production, which will involve 55 AI artists. Grey explained that “AI doesn’t replace the human component,” adding that “the human component is desperately needed in the process.”

AI remains a touchy subject for large swaths of the entertainment industry, with some writing off the technology as completely devoid of human creativity, and others fearing that their livelihoods will be replaced by lines of code."

Doug Liman made a $70 million movie using AI about the creator of bitcoin called Killing Satoshi, starring Gal Gadot, Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson.

"The tracking firm attributes New Jersey’s gains to a “surge in episodic activity” as more series shoot in the state that’s been deemed “Hollywood East” due to its mix of tax incentives, studio infrastructure and available crew. And that’s before a trio of major studio complexes are even completed. Netflix is investing $1 billion to build its East coast base with 12 soundstages at the former site of Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Paramount inked a 10-year lease in October to occupy 85,000 square feet of the in-construction 1888 Studios in Bayonne, while Lionsgate is set as the anchor tenant of Great Point Studios in Newark."

So far, California, New York and Georgia declined in filming counts while the Garden State saw gains.

Adobe has released their new "Color Mode," and I had the chance to be part of their beta testers of this new tool for several months. I personally use both Premiere and Resolve when editing and coloring projects, Adobe's Color Mode is a powerful grading tool that is surprisingly intuitive to use. Yes, there's still a learning curve to color mode, but I can see this replacing Lumetri for quick corrections or complex grades. Will it replace Resolve or Baselight remains to be seen.

Competition is good, and I'm happy to have more options available in my workflow. If you have downloaded the latest version of Premiere Beta, you can access color mode now.

"One example used in the report is that of postproduction in film and TV, where AI can accomplish rotoscoping or wire removal but struggles with creative tasks. Moreover, checking AI outputs is creating additional work for humans. One VFX company owner quoted in the report describes the use of AI on a major television production as “They have 15 artists that are sitting at workstations fixing the AI… When you multiply the rate of the artists by 15 and put that against the cost of the work you’re doing, it negates any savings that AI is giving you.”"

The rapid development of the tech isn’t displacing workers but it is changing the nature of creative work in the state, according to the latest research from Otis College of Art and Design.
