What is on your worktable? More on my worktable in a bit…
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about community and about authenticity vs. curation. Much of my creative work doesn’t fit into a curated view of the projects I’m working or my wider artistic interests so I don’t post much anymore.
There has been a lot of chatter lately about the dreaded ‘algorithm’ but I think that’s really beside the point and it’s something that we very little control over. What we do have control over is our story, what we share and how we engage with each other.
My feed is about to get messy - some might say “real” - but it will be authentic and it will represent what I’m inspired by, what I’m working on, and how those things combined might become manifest in the finished work I put out into the world someday.
Moving forward, I’m going to try and use this platform more thoughtfully, not every day, but more often. I will engage more and work to build an online community that inspires me, challenges me and enriches my creative life. Join me?
Now back to what’s on my worktable - a messy array of cut up copies including a few of my images and a whole lot of Hawaii ephemera that I have collected over the last few years. I’m working on laying out collages inspired by Jim Goldberg and The Official Dan Eldon Account and exploring ways of integrating this material with my photographs of the Hawaiian tourism landscape.
