Sadly, last night, I was forced to make the decision all pet owners dread. It was time to say goodbye to my sweet boy. The night before he sunk into my arms with his head close against my chest. I told him how much I loved him. In his last moments, I held him tight, kissed him and told him to find daddy.

As I exited the parking lot, the most beautiful rainbow appeared in front of me and I knew he had found my John and that John was a very happy soul. He had his boy back.

My deepest thanks go out to Dr. Nicole Wong at King Street Pet Hospital who was the most wonderful doctor to him during his short time on island.. And a big mahalo to our dear Cortney who answered my email when I asked Dr. Wong if any of her staff did pet sitting. Cortney took the greatest care of Baxter and quickly became ohana. We were so lucky to have her there with us at the end.

and just like that it’s day 365 in 🌈 there’s been no shortage of beauty, literally hundreds of rainbows, shades of blue I’ve never seen before, new friends, visiting friends, missing friends, family visits, finding ohana, haven’t tried SPAM yet, miss NYC food, my apartment building is like a freshman dorm with all of us finding our way in the middle of the ocean, secret swim spots, dream moments seeing 25 foot waves and watching Kelly Slater win Pipe, I love breakfast spots and pancakes covered in lilikoi or chantily sauce is a really big thing here, I don’t go to the beach as often as everyone thinks I do, I love driving Kitty the Jeep and I never have the windows in, sometimes I just want a rainy gray day, Haleiwa is my most favorite happy place, I still haven’t seen a whale, I have seen lots of honu, I’ve been told I speak the Hawaiian words very well by locals, 3 islands down, 5 to go, I shaka with a smile when I cut people off in traffic to beg forgiveness, I really want to slam on my horn and try to have aloha spirit but sometimes my New York gets the best of me, Baxter really loves it here and whines at me to go outside all day long which is pretty much how I know everyone, I’m always mesmerized by the fighter jet fly-bys, I’ve laughed a lot and cried a lot, I’ve put myself out there in the most uncomfortable situations and reaped the biggest rewards, I’ve learned to say no, and I continue to figure out who I am and what I’m doing on this island but I’m so grateful for the adventure and can’t wait to see what my next year brings ☀️🌋💛🍾🔆
