Sometimes you go home with some of your best work. Some other time you have proof of the incredible things you saw.

I wasn’t ready for bears.

My husband turned the car around cus he saw something down one of the trails but didn’t say what. I assumed it was a snake so the camera sat comfortably in my back pack, puzzled in between my seat and Roman car seat right behind me.

I wasn’t ready.

All we were left with was a memory and some footprints in the sand.

The first bear left before I could even process what was happening.

The second one, less than an hour later, sat there for a bit, in the middle of the road we were driving down. And then walked towards us!

I was ready-er. But I don’t think I have the right set up for bear photography.

A win is a win. Roman saw it too.

In the past months my “guarda!” started to get a reaction but not always fast enough or in the direction I want him to look.

He saw this bear tho. And I’m not 100% sure he realized it was something new and amazing or if he thought it was just a big Takoda. But the little squeals were so cute!

The adventure had just begun but I didn’t think we’ll ever see any more bears.

And then, after camping we found ourself a few miles deep into the forest with a dead battery!

Austin left on foot bright and early to go find us some help and on his walk (in his flip flops, phone in one hand, jumper cables in the other) he heard a noise in the forest and watched a mama bear and her cub run up the trees.

We will be back and hopefully we’ll see more. But for now this is an adventure I will never forget!

I found the coolest forest in Florida and we took our bedroom there for the night.

Road trips have been a bliss ever since we started planning shorter stretches, stopping overnight wherever.

Primitive camping is the goal, but RV parks do just fine when the baby can’t stand being in the car any longer. With this mindset, it takes longer to get to the destination but the adventure in between is the best part of every trip!

We got to this forest well before sunset. We fished, caught nothing, and we drove out to get some food. We made it back just before sunset to set up camp for the night. It was just us and this stunning sunset.

Georgia swamp

I though I had seen abundance of alligators. In South Carolina on date nights we shine light on ponds and count the shiny eyes looking back at us. Georgia was different. Taking photos of these alligators is one of the few reasons I’d step out of the car and face the horse flies 🫠

The anatomy of alligators is so fascinating. The ancient design is perfect and almost looks made up. If I lived in the swamp I’d love to look like a log with only my snorkel and eyes out of the water.

If it wasn’t for the angle and the way the bright light hits the water, I would have never seen this guy.

BTS. Some things I learned from my mentor I live by now as a photographer. One of them: get as low as you can when photographing animals.

We are so used to seeing animals and especially critters (and sharks) from up above. The right lighting and the new angle can make a photo.

For now we have replaced the deep blue ocean for the deep green of the swamp. And I’m obsessed!

If you treat critters like a treasure to be discovered nature will always be your biggest adventure. Anywhere. At any stage of your life. I dare you to be bored out there.
