She wanted to surprise her husband, so we added a short bo***ir session before her family portraits.

She arrived with a few ideas she loved, and together we shaped them into a plan that felt polished, sensual, and completely her.

What stood out most was how naturally she stepped into the experience. There was no long list of apologies, no nervous laughter, and none of the usual warnings about what she disliked about herself.

She simply trusted the process, enjoyed the moment, and let herself be photographed.

And yes, she loved the results.

And I understand why.

The color is beautiful. The styling is simple. The movement gives it just enough drama without taking the attention away from her anticipation.

Sometimes the strongest portrait is not the one with the most going on.

He was two years old, completely thrilled to become a big brother, and very serious about being part of his mama’s maternity session.

She wanted these portraits to celebrate the baby they were waiting for, but also to honor something quieter: the end of the chapter when her oldest was her only.

Soon, he would share her arms, her attention, and the rhythm of their days. But for this moment, it was still just the two of them.

His little hands resting on her belly, already loving someone he had not yet met.

A new chapter beginning, and another being tenderly remembered.

This little one came to me a bit later than the traditional newborn window after his mama experienced complications.

And yet, he settled in beautifully curling up, relaxing into each pose, and giving me the sweetest direct eye contact as a bonus.

Newborn sessions do not always happen on the timeline families originally imagined. Sometimes recovery comes first. Sometimes plans change.

The beauty is that meaningful portraits are still possible.

Nothing has made me feel my age quite like my oldest daughter telling me she needed a professional headshot for scholarship and college applications.

Excuse me? Wasn’t she just little? 🤯

And then came the interesting part: creating a professional headshot that still looked like her. Polished enough for applications and opportunities, but young, fresh, approachable, and appropriate for this stage of her life.

I didn’t want to photograph her as the professional woman she will become someday. I wanted to photograph the smart, capable young woman she is right now.

This stage of parenting is wild. Suddenly there are college lists, scholarship applications, career ideas, deadlines, and a hundred possible paths stretching out in front of them.

It is exciting and terrifying and honestly a little surreal.

So yes, I photographed the headshot.

And then quietly wondered how we got here so fast. 🥹
