Congratulations to Claudio Ponce Aguilar for once again taking home The Fastest Jockey on the Track trophy at Retama Park!!! With the track favoring speed tonight, Claudio took full advantage, sprinted to the lead, & never looked back. Alfredo Garza was searching for the finish line as Rosendo Garcia & J.R. Ramirez, Jr. tried to gain a placing by flinging their foreheads instead of their noses to the front. Rounding out the field were Olvin Martinez, Rigoberto Ortega, & Diego Contreras who never really seemed to grab hold of the surface. Thank you to everyone who participated this year!!
As a side note: I'm not sure how many times Claudio has won over the years, however, this photographer has noticed his only defeat came while he was running & laughing at the same time. Could that be his weakness for future races?🤔🤣🏃‍➡️

It was a fun night at Retama Park Friday! Horses were racing, kids were racing, & the band, Grupo Asalto from Snyder, had people dancing to some great Tejano music. A special thank you to jockey, Ruben Delarosa, Jr. for taking time to visit with some very excited fans! It's not every day that you get to meet a jockey!🙂

Saturday, Retama Park had the pleasure of once again hosting the LOPE Youth Education Event. LOPE - LoneStar Outreach to Place Ex-Racers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that retrains retired racehorses & connects them with educational & second career opportunities. We would not only like to thank LOPE for coming out, but would like to give a huge thank you to our own horsemen who graciously gave their time to participate during the event. Thank you, Janessa Muniz, trainer, J.R. Ramirez & Ali Rivera, jockeys, & Outrider, Paula Ramirez & her horse Sarge for taking time to answer questions & educate the LOPE attendees. We're already looking forward to next year!

There's always something going on on the backside, & last Friday was no different. Jockeys, Olvin & Oliver Martinez gave interviews to the marketing department as did trainers, Bubba Lewis & Janessa Muniz, & the gate crew. Victor Urieta, Jr. ponied a horse to the gate & made coffee while Chano Munoz closely supervised, & Nestor Duran made sure his hair was just perfect for a photo. After training hours were over, Ralph & Nathan from Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation caught an injured Egyptian Goose from the infield lake. You just never know what a day at the track will bring. 😃

Congratulations to jockey, Rigoberto Camarillo Ortega on getting his first career win tonight at Retama Park! He & First Seis Fancy crossed the finish line first in order to earn Rigoberto a new haircut & eyebrow shaping back in the jock's room. Congratulations, Rigoberto!!
