Meet Kimberly Lalou, one of the unstoppable women featured in my Wise Women: 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience, a portrait series celebrating the beauty, confidence, and wisdom women carry into this season of life. Kimberly's session was a gift in more ways than one: it was actually given to her by her employee and friend Jenna, who loved her own 50 Over 50 experience so much she wanted to share it with Kim.

Kim also took advantage of the option to invite someone else to join her for the last 20 minutes of her session, so her hubby Cody joined her for some fun, quirky, definitely-not-your-typical couples' shots - those were SO much fun to create, and I love how it shows off their personalities and the playful side of their relationship.

Laurie, a certified health coach, is another long-time friend who decided to jump into my Wise Women: 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience with both feet! Laurie has learned that a good life isn't measured by accomplishments, possessions, or how everything turns out in the end, but rather it's measured by what we choose to count along the way. A health coach, wife of 31 years, mother of two young adult sons, and lifelong learner, she has come to value experiences over things, meaningful relationships over busy schedules, and authenticity over perfection.

After losing her mother to cancer at just 52 and later facing her own health challenges, Laurie became determined to take charge of her health and help others do the same. Today, she embraces this season of life with gratitude, wisdom, and the confidence to be fully herself, finding joy in family, friendship, faith, and the everyday moments that matter most.

You usually see the finished images. What you don’t see is everything that happens before the first photo is ever taken.

Every photography assignment starts with careful preparation—camera bodies, lenses, batteries, chargers, memory cards, lighting gear, backups, and one final check to make sure nothing gets left behind.

Last week, my gear and I headed to beautiful Golden, Colorado, where I had the privilege of photographing a friend’s mountain wedding. While I don’t photograph weddings often, I couldn’t pass up the chance to help celebrate such a special couple in such a beautiful place.

The location may change. My preparation never does. 📷⛰️

It's been quiet on this page, y'all, because I've had:

✅ An on-location headshot day for my amazing repeat client AmRisc Group
🏖️ 25th-anniversary celebration getaway with my love and close friends to Akumal in the Mexican Riviera
✅ 50 Over 50 Shoots and Reveal/Ordering Sessions
✅ In-studio corporate/onboarding headshots for repeat clients Industrial Tax Consulting, STV, and Texas ENT
✅ 80th birthday family shoot for a dear childhood friend's mother and the whole family
🔨 Mission trip with my daughter's youth group to Dallas where our group built two wheelchair ramps in partnership with Texas Ramp Project
💕Volunteering with my daughter for National Charity League, Champions Chapter and hunting down a dress for her Senior Recognition event in a few months
✅ Prep for a small destination wedding I'm photographing next week (no, I don't usually do weddings - only for very special people, lol!)

So I haven't been on top of my social media, but I hope to share more with you very soon.

One of the best moments isn't the photoshoot itself—it's this.

Watching a woman see her portraits printed, beautifully bound, and finally in her hands.

So much of our lives live on phones and hard drives. But there is something special about holding your memories, flipping through the pages, and seeing yourself the way the people who love you see you.

Laura's portraits are now more than digital files. They are part of her story, preserved for years to come.

Jenna’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and continuing to fully embrace life.

A Stage 3 breast cancer survivor, endurance athlete, traveler, and dog lover, she shared so openly about the experiences that have shaped her over the years — from navigating menopause after cancer treatment to completing triathlons and marathons, rediscovering joy in this season of life, and learning to prioritize what matters most.

One thing she said that stayed with me was this:

“Women over 50 are far from over the hill.”

I think so many women will see pieces of themselves in her story.

It was such an honor to photograph her for the 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience, and I’m excited to share a glimpse of her session here.

Laura wrote this in her 50 Over 50 Questionnaire, and I don’t think a single woman reading this needs to be reminded how true that is.

Five years ago, Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She told me the hardest part wasn’t even the treatment. It was telling the people she loved.

Most of her appointments happened during the early days of the pandemic, when she had to walk into them alone.

And yet here she is.
