Someone once said if you take care of someone with dementia you lose them more and more everyday ok. When they get the diagnosis, when they go through different stages, when they need treatment and when they pass away. This is called "ambiguous loss".
As the brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They could end up lying in bed, not moving and not eating or drinking.
There will be people who will scroll past this post because Dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has battled or is still battling dementia.
To raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would like my friends to put this on their page today. Hold your finger on the post to copy and paste to your timeline.

Quick reminder to everyone to BE SURE YOUR PAYMENT METHOD STAYS CURRENT ON WEB STORAGE....In the past week I've had two clients reach out about their Google Drive storage...it's "expired" because of payment methods having expires. Their family photos are there, but not there. (Inaccessible.)

First, the good news is Google doesn't delete everything when payment expires, but you must get a new card on file to regain access. Years ago, I had a client lose all her photos because her credit card expired with Apple...so, I take this VERY seriously. Wherever you have stored your important photos, be sure you check it regularly to make sure payments don't expire.

It took two of us (digital nerds) over here to walk through, dig deep and get into Google AI Storage plan in order to simply "regain" access after a card expired. We finally got it and then downgraded to the Premium storage we needed (less expensive and no AI stuff which isn't needed for family photo archives.) Stressful even for us since it wasn't very straightforward.

But bottom line is we want everyone to always stay safely backed up in THREE places...on the web (cloud - Dropbox, Google Drive, icloud) as well as on an external hard drive in your possession and on a computer hard drive. (Like your C drive)...so, if you're not sure that you're safely backed up, please do some digging and/or call us so we can make sure your precious photos are safe and sound. Belt and suspenders is our hope for everyone so nobody loses sleep worrying about their digital archives.

We've been helping scan family history documents and needed to replace old-style binding once our scanning was complete. Just had a great experience with Powerhouse Discovery here in Houston and so impressed with their service. They bind things no one else in Houston was able to do. They were responsive and quick, and very easy to work with. Seeing all their equipment, I realize it's a place we can get very large family trees scanned (we come across those quite frequently...like rolled blueprints.)... Ordered our last book for Christmas today. Just a few more days to organize and scan a few projects before 2026 arrives. So, we took a quick break to do our usual "Holiday Photo Shenanigans"... October is National Estate Planning Awareness Month—a time to review or create plans that protect your loved ones and reflect your values. We also encourage everyone to think about preserving their photo history. Are your photos organized and labeled for future generations? Are non-digital photos (old prints or pictures on discs) digitized? If not, please think about making a plan for the future. We can help you with any part of that process from organizing to scanning and creating a family digital archive for the future. Capturing the information while people are alive and can help provide information about old photos is paramount to the process of passing down family history. It can be overwhelming, but our clients say we make the process fun and relaxing...so, let's get the ball rolling in honor of National Estate Planning month if you haven't already.

We explored Moab’s mesmerizing nightscapes with the iPhone’s Night Mode—capturing starlit skies and the serene beauty of the desert after dark. Pro Tip* Even slight movement can blur Night Mode shots because of the long exposure. Do your best to keep steady or use a tripod!

We started a tradition of taking a photo at our front door when we got our new office back in 2018. Then each year we hold the old framed photo and create a new one. (Think Modern Family, right?) It's been fun seeing how ONE of us ages and the other doesn't. This year we have a new front door, and since the lighting wasn't so great, we opted for a "near the front door" option. Always fun and tons of laughter as we try to catch our best selves with the self-timer without knocking down the tripod or tripping as we jump in to view. We encourage everyone to do some "traditions" like this...such a fun way to see life in a Reader's Digest view of changes that are too gradual to notice a day at a time.

We're celebrating a lot this week. Hayden has been Photo Nanny "Junior" for NINE years! We're so blessed to have her YOUNG brain around here. Always helping with a smile and truly caring about the projects as if these photos were her own family's...That's why she was the perfect fit nine years ago and continues to bring her creative A-Game every day!
