This month brought the last fleeting days of summer and the start of a new routine. Last August we were all-in on the demo & framing work of our home remodel (half the roof was gone), so after months of construction and then moving back home, this August was quite boring by comparison. I must say I prefer the boring. 😆

A few snaps from this month:
2: neighborhood walkies with Penny
3: birthday chocolate souffle
4: puzzle time (accompanied by 60s/70s hits)
5: back to school
6-7: studio makeover & new toys
8: rare bloom from our bird of paradise
9: all smiles at work
10: August 2025 progress pic (just for fun)

Tank’s mom said his life motto was: “You WILL adore me!” Gotta love that confidence! 😎

This pit bull was a total ham who loved marshmallows, faked injuries to get onto the couch, and made it his mission to win over anyone who seemed a little afraid of him. He was a true gentle giant who had a way of making people feel safe and loved.

I photographed Tank with his little human sister back in 2020, when I was just experimenting with studio lighting in my garage. Tank has since passed, so having his portrait included in this project means a little extra to me.

That early session reminds me how much has changed over the past ten years, and how grateful I am for every person and dog who trusted me along the way. 🥰

Follow along. There are still a few more Joybringers I want you to meet.

The pink wall has officially retired.

She was pretty. She was feminine. She was also used to photograph exactly zero men. So, after many years, I finally painted over her with a neutral that works for everyone.

In her honor, here are a few favorites from the pink wall era. 🩷

P.S. New background colors are here!

Goose and Mac’s mom called them “partners in joy” when she first reached out to me, and I loved that!

Goose is definitely the boss. 😂 She likes to be front and center, preferably playing ball. She has balls of all different colors and will switch them up mid-game just to see if you’re paying attention. 🎾

Mac loves hugs and is happy as long as Goose is nearby. Although he’s perfectly capable of jumping on the bed, he’s trained his mom into a bedtime routine where he puts his front paws up and waits for his mom to lift the rest of him. I personally think it’s a tactic for getting a few extra hugs! 💘

Two dogs. Two different personalities. And one really sweet friendship.

More Joybringers are coming. Follow along to meet the rest!

True story: I once had a client bring 5 outfits to her headshot session, and every single one was all black.

Ladies, I know your closet is full of black (so is mine!) but I need more to work with to give you variety during your headshot session. Other timeless neutrals are white, cream, khaki, tan, gray, charcoal, and navy. So if bold colors aren’t your thing, go ahead and bring the black. But also choose 1-2 other neutrals too. 😉

Need more inspiration? I have a whole blog post about the best colors to wear for headshots. DM for link.

Waffles wasn’t exactly part of the plan.

During a bike ride along the bayou, his mom found him skinny, cold, banged up, and very much in need of someone to stop.

So she did. And somewhere along the way, this unexpected dog became one of the greatest gifts.

These days, Waffles has a few things figured out:
🔸 What’s yours is his.
🔸 Breakfast should be followed by going back to bed.
🔸 Refrigerator opening = good (according to his dad, he can hear the fridge door open from another state!)

Waffles wasn’t planned. But sometimes the best things in life aren’t. 🤍

Can’t wait to share his exhibition portrait - it’s one of a kind! 😂

The Joybringer sessions are complete, but follow along as I highlight more very good dogs!

’Twas the night before school starts, and suddenly the slow summer days are turning into alarm clocks and color-coded calendars. 🫠

Summer always feels too short at the end, doesn’t it?

I’m not quite ready to trade the slower pace for school & activity schedules, but I do love the reset that comes with this time of year. Friends, routines, fresh starts, and a full fall ahead!

Just dreading that alarm clock tomorrow morning... ⏰

Otto has range.

Regal. Happy. Goofy. Curious. And occasionally just downright unimpressed.

I’ve photographed this little guy several times, and he’s always game to go along with whatever we have planned.

Cowboy hat and bandana? Fine. Gallivanting in the bluebonnets? Yes. Does he always look thrilled about it? Absolutely not. 😂

And that’s part of what makes Otto so much fun.

This smart boy has never met a stranger, loves his people wholeheartedly, and gives a really good side-eye when he feels left out. Always a good sport, even when his face says otherwise. 😆

The Joybringer portrait sessions have officially wrapped, but I still have more good dogs and great stories to share before the September exhibition. Follow along to meet the rest of the Joybringers.

Headshot hot take: not every image needs direct eye contact.

For your main profile photo, yes, I usually recommend looking at the camera. It helps create connection and trust quickly.

But for your website, social media, or a fuller branding gallery, the looking-away images can feel more relaxed and candid.

I’m a big fan of both. What about you?

If Griffin could talk, his life motto would be: “I hit the lottery.”

After a difficult start, Griffin found the family he was always meant for. And life is pretty good these days.

Walks. Cuddles. Holding hands whenever possible. Jumping over the couch in a single leap and rushing the door when the UPS driver visits. 😆

And a family that absolutely adores him. Griffin’s portraits have become paintings, sweaters, and even a custom purse. When a dog brings this much joy into your life, you find every excuse to celebrate them. ❤️

He hit the lottery. And so did his family.

There’s ONE FINAL SPOT available this week to be included in The Joybringer Project. Call me today if you want in!
