I found my moment of calm this morning at Silverwood Park. A foggy, quiet morning to meaning me what peace can feel like. The world is too much with us, as Wordsworth reminds me; so to find this time alone with my thoughts, absent of the sh*t show falling around me, was a real blessing. I hope you can find some quiet joy today, too. Those moments can strengthen us for the days and weeks to come.

Coming up on Zack’s angel day, Sept 1, and although it’s been 19 years grief can still stab me when I least expect it. It doesn’t hurt as much, the pain has dulled, but it is still there - a scar that never heals.

Some of my newer friends wonder what happened — It’s a complicated story, but in short - Zack was in a motorcycle accident when he was 13. He had on a helmet. Hit his head hard, had an asthma attack. Died in the ambulance but was revived 45 min later. Slipped into a coma. Over the next week, due to that 45 minutes without oxygen, his brain swelled beyond the capacity of his skull. I was with him when he was disconnected from life support and he died in my arms.

I never tire of talking about him/celebrating him. If you have questions, please ask. Don’t worry about dredging up emotions - I would rather cry if I need to and share memories of Zack than keep it all inside. A great fear of most grieving parents is the memory of their children will fade away.

Sending out my love to all of you, new friends and old. This moment on earth is just a blip in the cosmos, and I am only a breath away from my son. I need to make the most of this brief space I have alive, just as Zack did. Live life to the fullest day by day is more than just a quote on a wall for me - I’m kinda a dork that way.

We took maternity photos today; I tell her she is beautiful and today she finally believes me. It’s been quite the road to this moment and she is going to be a wonderful mother.

AJ’s on Main: highly recommend. Limited menu, amazing results. Tried the brisket, pork ribs, loaded potato. All delicious. A+.
