Smile a Day Pics
Last evening after the rain, I headed out to walk Bailey. As I walked out the door, she froze and was staring to my left. There were 2 fawns, so I headed back in and grabbed the camera. The twins were headed for the road, and mom was on the other side. Mom went into the woods and the first fawn followed her quickly. The 2nd fawn hesitated and stared at me before trying to find mom. The fawn got confused and ran back and forth a few times before mom called and it jumped into the woods. I grabbed Bailey to continue our walk and when we came to her favorite "p**p place in the woods", I waited for her to end her nature call. I realized that there was another fawn not more than 50 ft. from Bailey. The fawn never moved and Bailey never saw it. After we completed our walk, I grabbbed the camera and headed back. Cheryl and I needed a few days away! We have spent a lot of time in the Boothbay area over the years, but this was a new place to stay for us. The Ocean Gate Resort in Southport, Me. has a lot to offer. Our room looked out over the water towards the Sheepscot River. I used their kayak to explore the area which was pretty amazing. Within a mile of leaving the dock, there was 3 active Osprey nests, there was massive schools of Pogies surrounding me and Grey Seals chasing the Pogies. Enjoy

What a day to be on the water....yesterday morning a last minute decision had me heading towards Newburyport to hop on Newburyport Whale Watches afternoon trip. It turned out to be an excellent decision. Calm waters, fair breeze, some of my favorite Whale watch Staff on board and of course some great whale interactions with a Minke and a few Humpbacks. These pics are of a Humpback lunge feeding. Did you know that a Humpback lunge feeding can have enough water in it's mouth to fill a 12ft x 10ft swimming pool to a depth of 7ft aproximately 43,000 lbs of salt water. It's confirmed....they are back! I have heard the calls of a Green Heron off and on for about 6 weeks. Now I can confirm that they are back. This is the 3rd summer that the Little Green Herons (Greenies) have been back in the Bryant Woods Community. Last year there was only on baby, but the year before there was 3. They are elusive, and well camouflaged making them difficult to see even when they are right in front of you. Enjoy! Pics taken in Atkinson, NH

I headed to the coast last evening for a dramatic sunset. The clouds were amazing as I headed to Salisbury, Ma., but shortly before sunset the clouds dissapated and I headed to Seabrook and Hampton, NH to try for some interesting shots. Yesterdays "walk-a-bout" brought new awareness to the capabilities of the new Nikon ZIII. The pics of this male Calico Pennant dragonfly were taken along the side of our community pond. It was pretty breezy and dragonflies can perch on a tall blade of grass. Many of my shots yesterday were taken while the grass was moving like an erratic pendulum. The Calico Pennant is one of my favorite dragonflies and it is amazing to watch. Hope you enjoy! Pics taken in Atkinson, NH

I have said, many times, that I am an opportunistic photographer! I do not concentrate on just one subject, what catches my eye differs from day to day, season to season. The new camera I have been using for the last 3 months is still new to me and I am enjoying the process of learning it's capabilities. Today I did a little walk about in the community, specifically for closeup shots of insects and flowers. I am pretty happy with the results. This pic of a Strawflower and a Sweat Bee turned out pretty good and the autofocus is exceptional. Thank you for looking! Pic taken in Atkinson, NH

Usually later in the season, you can see birds and other critters that get tipsy while eating berries. The berries will ferment on the bushes. On Wed. I watched this young Gray Catbird eating berries. It slowly started to act funny and soon was sleeping spread out on this bush. It was there for close to an hour before it flew away. It seems early, but it sure seemed like it was getting tipsy from fermenting berries. Pics taken in Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Newbury, Ma.
