This right here is very real!
Did you know that fat, thick, curvy, plus-sized women are NOT brave just for existing and being happy WHILE being these things?
If I had $20 for every time someone commented on a photo of me showing skin telling me how brave I am I would be able to afford a more expensive house and pay cash for it. Here’s the thing though: telling a chubby woman that she’s brave for sharing a picture of her in a swimsuit is rooted in fatphobia and it makes many of us feel like maybe we should start feeling more self-conscious.
As women, we are already so hard on ourselves. For so long, society has made us feel like unless we have a perfect body that has no scars, no discoloration, no dimples, no stretch marks, no lumps and bumps and is the ideal weight we can’t love or be proud of it.
This narrative is false and subscribing to this notion will lead future generations to congratulate bigger bodies for merely existing in the same way that smaller bodies do. We have to stop this now because it’s dangerous for so many reasons.
If you are struggling with your body image or not, read this right here and internalize it. Let these words become part of your self-talk:
You are beautiful as you are. You are excellent as you are. Your body is a temple that is growing and changing just like your mind and emotions and spirit and that is amazing. You are worthy of all the things for simply existing. You are needed and wanted. Thank you for being the most beautiful you.
