Kinda wild looking back at the beginning of the Smiley team's work in the ABV world. Thank goodness things have moved past the sugary, neon-colored party drinks, pre-made sour mixes, and energy drinks as mixers era! Rick was lucky enough to be a part of the core group of Angelinos that brought the pre-prohibition cocktail renaissance to life. If you ever get the chance - ask him about it! The stories are wild. He can be pretty humble and demure about it unless you open the door 😉

So good! 100% can attest to the purity of this process. Nothing quite like the master distiller's wife handing you a chunk of warm, soft agave and showing you how to chew (suck, rather) all the sweet goodness off of the fibers. It's amazing what goes into real, organic tequila. Such an art form, and such refined simplicity 🌵🥃

Putting on the finishing touches of the latest mural! 👩‍🎨🎨 This is the FIRST outdoor mural since moving back to Indiana, and WOW it is different than doing stuff like this in Cali. And to be fair, the majority of my mural work has been interior. Also, this is the first time working on this particular wall texture and it's safe to say, I underestimated the challenge. Give me cinder blocks. Give me brick. Of course I prefer a lovely smooth wall bc WHAT IS THIS STUFF 🤣 But... DID IT!

I started this project in late summer/ fall right before winter temps came in like a freight train. The way it played out, that was by far the coldest I'd painted in! 🥶 And maybe I was overly cautious - but I wanted the paint to cure correctly and halted progress. 🚧 Figured there would be some mid winter warm spells, as there usually is - but goodness, not really.

Then when the spring temps finally started catching up, the rain started making up for the drought. 🌧 ☔ On days we actually didn't get rain, the weather apps showed enough of a % that I didn't want to risk it. Then, on days we had almost no chance of rain, we would get a surprise shower. 🤪 💦 And of course, this is supposed to be our most important garden season yet with 🌶 The Newsroom 🍅 getting geared up to open and officially getting all of our paperwork done to turn our homesteading life into being market gardeners (✨🙌 happy dance! 💃); so the good weather moments had to be strategically divided. Not to mention, of course, filming and photography 📸 - our literal careers - which also require scheduling around weather... y'all I swear, I swore a LOT 😅

And now that I've turned this mural progress post into a personal diary entry, stay tuned for THE BIGGEST CURVEBALL OF THEM ALL!!! We will be dropping that one next week. In the meantime, if you know anyone needing a mural, I would LOVE to jump on more! ✨🙌
