Friends and family!
I come to you to bring to light something that is near to my heart. On September 19th, I will be partaking in my first Conquer Chiari walk. It is to help raise awareness and raise money for research for Chiari Malformation.
Chiari Malformation doesn't just effect my body, but at times it effects my way of life. Chiari Malformation is classified as an extension of the cerebellar tonsills swelling and being distended bellow the skull into the spinal canal. In my case, somedays i am perfectly fine. I can function normally... on what we call "bad body days" I struggle with getting out of bed, making my actual body function, balance issues, being dizzy, migraines and head pressure for days on end with little to no relief. Most recently, my balance has been extremely terrible. I have had to resort to using the riding carts when needed at the stores etc.
It is a scary thing, but after many many years of not knowing exactly what was wrong with me, we finally have a name. Chiari Malformation. I am currently stage 1. In most cases, relief is only brough by a surgery. But in my case right now, I am struggling to find a doctor who will help me. Why? Because there is little research on Chiari in adults. It is typically noticed in childhood, mine was found when I was 36yrs old. Alot of times Chiari in adults is dismissed and overlooked.
I am setting a goal of $5,000. (The link says different, but $5,000 is the goal). It would mean the world to me if you would consider donating, sharing or whatever you feel led to do. Especially prayers!
We are team Courtny's Courage! Sign ups to walk in Katy,TX with me are actually still open for September 19th as well as virtual options. I am looking forward to being apart of changing my own life as well as others living with courage with a diagnosis that can seem daunting. If you do virtual-walk PLEASE share photos with me!!
Thank you for your love and support. As a person who lives with a chronic illness that you can't always physically see, it is hard for me to share my struggles, but I am extremely grateful for the people God has placed in my life to walk with me, pray over me, and support my family and I. To my children and husband, Thank you for being patient on my good days but especially my bad days. You make life worth living for.
