Twelve months ago they were brand new. Today they’re pulling up on furniture, babbling, laughing at things only they find funny.

We got to watch it happen — three, six, nine, twelve. Not just how much bigger they got, but who they became. The way their eyes changed. The way they started reaching for the world instead of just resting in it.

This is why I love this first year so much. It moves fast, and most of it happens in the ordinary in-between moments nobody thinks to capture. A whole year of firsts, held in four sittings.

It’s seeing a sweet family hold their baby boy for the first time in front of my camera. Watching big brother and big sister lean in, smile, kiss his head — not because I asked them to, but because they can’t help it.
