Horses in the dust.

I leave from Wyoming and the Triangle X Ranch today to start my journey back to Jasper, GA. It has been a great trip, and it is always great to spend time with wonderful folks on our workshops. We only had rain on our last morning, but all the other days were really perfect. The Triangle X Ranch was once again perfect, the cabins, the food, the people, and of course the views are second to none. I will miss everyone out here, but look forward to seeing them in September! I will miss seeing the beautiful horses come in each morning, and go out each evening. I hope to do some updates as I travel through some areas I haven't spent much time in before. I have set foot in 49 of our 50 States, but not spent nearly enough time seeing some of them. I won't get to stay long in some, but I will definitely be stopping to take in the views. I don't know how much I will be able to post images from the "big cameras" but I will try! For this image I used the Tamron 35-100mm Di III E mount lens. My settings for the image were at 100mm on a Sony a1, Manual Mode, f8, shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, ISO 500, handheld, f-stop Gear GURU AIR backpack.

Mother and child.

We were super fortunate to see a cow Moose and her new calf yesterday in an area that I check every time I go by it. There was a truck in the area, so I had to look around it, and finally after hundreds of times checking we found it. It was really neat to see this calf, which couldn't have been more than a week old, if that, following Mom in the stream. It was a special moment. We made sure we stayed well more than the Park regulations as to not pressure the pair. As we left they wandered back into the sagebrush. It was awesome to see the interaction. For this image I used the Tamron 150-500mm Di III E mount lens. My settings for the image were at 500mm on a Sony a1, Manual Mode, f6.7, shutter speed of 1/1600th of a second, ISO 500, handheld, f-stop Gear GURU AIR backpack.

Spring Sunrise.

The weather in Wyoming in Spring is always interesting, one hour can be clear, another hour can be snowing or raining. For photographers it is great! Dramatic weather makes for great images. We finished with our first of 2 workshop groups this morning and start with our second this afternoon. Our morning today was okay for scenic, but we ended on a great note with seeing a bear, 3 moose, a Bald Eagle, and lots of elk! This image was made a few days ago at the Snake River Overlook. The rain moving in front of the mountain range lit up with beautiful reds and oranges for a few minutes, then the skies cleared. I am looking forward to some great days with the second group, but they have some big shoes to fill with as our first group was fantastic and a lot of fun to spend time with. Thank you again to the first group for a great 5 days! For this image I used the Tamron 35-100mm f2.8 Di III VXD lens on a Sony a7RIVa, at 35mm, f11, and a 1/10th of a second exposure, Leofoto tripod, fStop Gear Guru AIR backpack.

Rush Hour, Triangle X Ranch style.

I haven't been able to post much on my trip because I haven't had the time to sit and process images like I normally would, but I will do it when I can, so bear with me. One of the highlights of every trip to the Triangle X Ranch is our sessions of photographing the horses either going out for the evening, or coming in during the morning. I love watching them run and they look like they are just having fun most of the time. It is such a thrill to feel the movement of the ground under your feet. I know I will post more of these over the next few weeks! For this image I used the Tamron 150-500mm Di III E mount lens. My settings for the image were at 363mm on a Sony a1, Manual Mode, f8, shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, ISO 4000, Leofoto tripod, f-stop Gear GURU AIR backpack.

One of my new favorite views, the Blacktail Ponds Overlook.

I am counting the days until I return to this incredible landscape for our 2 workshops. I have said it before, the Tetons changed my life. It opened my eyes to all the beauty around us, and I feel a sense of peace every time I return. Sharing it with others is a bonus. I start my journey out there tomorrow morning and it may be hard to post on some days unless I can set up my Starlink. I will try to do some short videos and posts on my phone to share the journey with you guys. You have to be pretty bored though to follow, but I will try to make it worth your wild with some images. For this image I used my Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens on a Nikon Z8 at 28mm, Manual Exposure mode, f16, shutter speed of 1/8th of a second, ISO 100, Leofoto tripod, f-stop Gear Ajna backpack.

Rocky Mountain Skies in my future.

I am only a few days away from heading out to Wyoming, packing is almost done, and I am ready. I have some friends driving out there now and they posted as to how horrible the traffic is on I-70 and I saw it is just as bad on I-80, so it is making me look at an alternative route on I-40 then work my way up to Wichita, then Denver and to Moose, WY from there. It only adds an hour to the trip, but that is okay with me, it beats sitting in traffic! This image was made from right out in front of my cabin at the Triangle X Ranch! Do you understand why we love it out there so much? We had just finished dinner and we just grabbed our cameras and enjoyed the view! For this image I used my Tamron 18-300mm Di III-A lens, at 18mm(27mm equivalent on a cropped sensor body), on a Sony a6700, Manual Mode, f8, shutter speed of 1/80th of a second, ISO 100, Leofoto Poseidon tripod.

AV8 Harriers from VMA 223.

I was really happy to see the Harriers at Sun 'n Fun as the Marine Corps will be retiring them in June 2026. These 4 are based in Cherry Point, NC where we lived when I was a kid. They are known for their VSTOL (vertical short take off and landing). They will be replaced with some F35Bs. It is always great to see a part of Marine Corps history! For this image I used my Tamron 150-500mm Di III VC VXD lens on a Sony a1 at 322mm, f8, shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, ISO 250, handheld.

Just another Corsair image...

As Cecil and I walked around the static aircraft each morning during Sun n' Fun, we did so many silhouettes with sunstars. It almost became a contest between us! I was always drawn to the aircraft from WWII and around that era up to the age of jets. I am always drawn to Corsairs. When I was a kid, my Dad built a Corsair that you would fly by holding strings and turn in circles. I don't remember if it ever flew, but it was really cool and the details were incredible. Simple things evoke great memories and photographs preserve those simple things. For this image I used my new Tamron 35-100mm f2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens, at 45mm, on a Sony a1, Manual Mode, f22, shutter speed of 1/20th of a second, ISO 100, handheld, f-stop Gear Kashmir Air.

Symmetrical beauty.

I am more of an asymmetrical composition kind of guy, but when an incredible handsome male Wood Duck gives me the chance to make a beautiful symmetrical image, well I do it. I've been busy here at home in Bear Woods catching up on processing, puppy sitting and packing for my trip out west, but I am working to get myself in a nature photography state of mind. I've decided with the price of gas I am going to just drive the truck and utilize the truck rack tent for the trip. I'll get to the Tetons a few days early, scout and re-energize, then after the workshop head east through South Dakota and see the sights! I'm rigging camera mounts on the truck to do some videos, so hopefully I can share this beautiful country with you. For this image I used my Tamron 150-500mm lens on a Sony a1, at 349mm (523mm equivalent with the camera in APS-C mode), Manual Mode, f8, shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, ISO 800, handheld, f-Stop Gear Kashmir AIR backpack.

Preparing for an adventure.

I started my career as a Professional Nature Photographer in 1994, even though I had been doing photography for a profession for 2 years by then. I remember one thing I did back then was to drive everywhere or most everywhere. Over the years I had to be back by a certain date, or couldn't leave until a certain date. I am doing something this year, because I can, that I have done since 1996 or so, I am driving to our workshops in the Tetons! There are places I haven't seen, or it has been along time since I saw them, and want to do that while I can. I am loading up the truck, and maybe the camper, and taking almost a week to drive out, and a week to drive back. I want to see the Badlands, Black Hills, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, maybe Uranus, MO (because I'm immature), and if something like the world's largest ball of yarn pops up, who knows, it may call my name. I'll make it to my happy places, the Triangle X Ranch and Schwabacher Landing in time to do the workshops of course. My plan is to do a lot of video, as well as still images to share the country with those who want to see it. I'm ready for the adventure! For this image I used my Tamron 20-40mm Di III lens, at 40mm, on a Sony a7RIVa, Manual Mode, f11, shutter speed of 1/160th of a second, ISO 800, tripod
