Every photographer needs a friend who's willing to step in front of the camera—and thankfully, I know one.

A huge thank-you to Ms. Paris Morris for trading the comfort of her air-conditioned office for the Alabama July heat so we could create these images. Having a real person in front of the lens gave my mentee the opportunity to learn posing, composition, lighting, and client interaction in a hands-on way that no classroom lesson could replicate.

Framing is everything in photography.

When I captured the first image, I was drawn to the opening beneath the building and the strong architectural lines. But then I noticed the purple blossoms almost creating wings around him, and I knew I had to frame the portrait within that moment.

That’s what I love about both photography and life—you never really know where a single decision will lead. Every choice opens the door to new possibilities, bringing its own challenges, beauty, and unexpected opportunities.

Sometimes the best images—and the best moments—come from being willing to see something you didn’t plan for and following where it takes you.

What I love about these two images is that, technically, the pose is almost identical.

In both photographs, she stands slightly behind him. But in the first image, their heads are connected, her hands rest gently on his, and their smiles radiate pure joy. It feels like wedding bliss—two people fully present in the excitement of becoming one.

Then I take a step back.

A little more space appears between them. Her hands move to his shoulders, his expression softens into something calm and steady, while her smile continues to shine. Suddenly, the story shifts. The image speaks of trust, comfort, strength, protection, and quiet confidence.

Same couple.�Same moment.�Different emotions.�Different story.

That's why I believe wedding photography is about so much more than creating beautiful images. It's about preserving the subtle connections, emotions, and unspoken dynamics that make every relationship unique.
