After hanging in Provincetown yesterday, we took a drive through the Province Lands before heading home. This image of the Race Point Light was from Herring Cove. 😁

Based on inspiration from a friend who was there the night before, I headed over to Saint Andrews by the Sea again (see prior post), but this time at night, to take some pics. Here is one of them. Taken from the outside with interior light shining through the window and door. Click on image to see it in its entirety.

Not a Full Moon. 😜😜😜

Per Google . . . This spherical, textured fungus appears to be a young puffball mushroom, likely a Peeling Puffball (Lycoperdon marginatum).

Visual Features: The image shows a small, round, white mushroom body.It is covered in sharp, pyramid-shaped warts or spines. These spines form a geometric, faceted pattern across the surface.

Potential Species Possibilities:

Peeling Puffball (Lycoperdon marginatum): Features an outer spiny layer that sloughs off in patches as it grows.

Common Puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum): Has shorter, wart-like spines that leave a scarred pattern when they fall off.

Spiny Puffball (Lycoperdon echinatum): Displays longer, brownish or white prominent spines.

General Facts:

Growth: These fungi sprout on the ground, often in wooded areas or on woody debris and sandy soil.

Maturation: As they age, the white outer layer turns brown, and a top pore opens to release spores.

Edibility Note: While many puffballs are considered edible when the interior flesh is solid and completely white, wild mushrooms should never be eaten without professional in-person verification.
