Very cool. Turn those outside lights off at night ( now and always!).
WHAT IS HAPPENING? Local radar sites around the Great Lakes and New England are exploding with radar returns this evening. It's not rain.
These are "biological" echoes, many millions of birds participating in the annual fall migration southward. These large nocturnal migrations appear as fuzzy circles around individual radar sites, flaring up after dark as birds take flight under the relative safety of night. You'll often see them appear shortly after local sunset, expanding westward as the Earth rotates. Pretty cool!
