I grew up in the Midwest just south of Chicago, Illinois. And though a love for the city and the people there cause me to return there occasionally, my love for wild places has drawn me to reside in the Northwest amongst the rugged beauty of Idaho and the surrounding Northwest. Long have I loved reminding people that there is a greater story happening all around us. Every image has a story to tell, and I love conveying the wonder of this world through these captured moments. The Wonder of this World

There’s something about the hour just before darkness settles in that makes me stop and pay attention.

This piece was born from that kind of moment — when the light is fading, the world feels quieter, and even a familiar place seems to reveal something new. I’ve always believed that the best photographs don’t just show us a scene; they remind us there’s a greater story unfolding all around us.

That’s what I hope you feel here: stillness, movement, and wonder all at once. I showed this image last week and received some interesting comments. Those friends who live in Idaho Falls will especially appreciate the old water tower. Photographed in 2020!

Throne of the Ancient One

During my stay in Glacier a few years back, I was amazed at the immensity of the mountains cascading down to the vast valleys below. I was reminded of the words of Isaiah when he spoke for the Ancient One...
"Heaven is My throne and the earth is the footstool for My feet. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?"

In light of their immensity, I felt suddenly small and thought how small it is - that what seems so big at the moment in relation to the bigness of a God who created this - may not be quite as exhorbitant and require as much weight that I place upon a moment. If this is a footstool to the Ancient One - then perhaps the struggle at the moment isn't as huge as I make it out to be.

I’m curious — when you look at this image, do you feel.....more peace or more energy?

That’s one of the things I love most about photographing places like this: people respond to the same scene in completely different ways.

Some see calm. Some see motion. Some see something personal that reminds them of a memory they can’t quite put into words.
I’d love to hear what this one brings up for you.

I love clouds - they can make any vista seem so much more magnificent than what a whisp-less sky affords. Even when they're naughty and cover the peak - they still create such a beautiful palette to enjoy the moment!
