When they connected on Snapchat during college, neither could have suspected they were about to start a long-distance relationship that would span several years — most recently, with him residing in the Northwest and her in the Midwest.

They also likely had no inkling of this wedding day that would close that gap and start their lives together in a new way, no longer in separate time zones. They shared the first few hours of this new start surrounded by their closest family in her grandmother’s backyard, keeping the occasion simple but also full of significance.

It was a joy to share in Ashlyn and Dylan's wedding today at her grandmother's home. 💕 Much more of their sweet celebration coming soon!

As teenagers, neither realized they shared a school and a graduating class with their future spouse.

Rather, it would take post-graduation employment at Glory Days Pizza for them to meet and wonder if maybe they’d had a class together. But once they did meet, any past missed connections didn’t matter — as evidenced by the fact they were dating within a few months.

And if rain is good luck on a wedding day, maybe that also holds true for a first date. It made for a memorable one, at least, with them taking shelter from the weather under the whale sculpture in Gage Park. Four years later, when he proposed on her birthday, he chose that exact spot — leading to an engagement that they’ll follow with a wedding day this fall.

The conversation was easy and the connection was natural on their first date — dinner at a restaurant where they spent four hours and outlasted their waiter’s shift. They talked about travel and shared funny stories and felt like they were already something more than virtual strangers who’d met on a dating site.

What really stood out, though — even more than the effortlessness they were experiencing together — was how he ate his hamburger patty off the bun, just like her mom always did. With that quirky habit, it was like he was already part of her family.

But they didn’t rush to make it official. They formed their relationship for four years before he popped the question in Branson last December — by which point her answer was a “yes” as easy as the dynamic they’ve shared since Day 1.
