The original plan was a cake smash.
The reality? After a few bites, this little guy was pretty much done with the cake. Dad looked at me and said, "I think we're done."
But then I spotted a puddle. It had rained all morning, and something told me we should give it a try.
The second his feet hit that water, everything changed. The biggest smiles, the best laughs, and some of my favorite images from the entire session happened after the cake was over.
One of the things I've learned after all these years of photographing children is that sometimes the best photos happen when you stop trying to stick to the plan and follow their lead instead
