Before the St Peters canal was built in 1869, Native Mi'kmaq carried their canoes over the half mile portage trail across the isthmus between Bras D'or to the Atlantic Ocean. The tidal differences between each side of the canal can be up to 4.5 feet. Today the canal is used by fishermen and recreational boats from late Spring through late Fall. This is a great spot to have a picnic lunch and watch the boats travel in and out of the lock. See my blog linked to my profile page or send me a message for the direct link. These are very likely the last photos ever taken of the Sand Dollar Pier before Hurricane Helene took it away from us. The last photo shows what remains of it , the day after the storm. You can see how massive the waves are with sideways sea spray.

The next 75 Photos (Set 2) of Sand Key (Indian Shores, Indian Rocks, Redingtons and Madeira Beach.) Everyone one on the island has to throw everything out that was on ground level, including drywall, furniture and food. The whole island looks like a war zone. Some buildings have blown out walls and windows from the massive storm surge that covered the entire island.

I have been to too many war zones, humanitarian crisis areas and natural disaster areas when I was in the military. I never thought I would see so much of the same stuff within walking distance of my home. Here is set 1 of What Gulf Boulevard looks like on October 1, 2024 (only a couple days after the storm surge destroyed much of Sand Key.

For the second year in a row, I was blessed to get a photo with a 1968 Mexico City Olympics Silver Medalist . There are so many world records he broke over the course of his running career.
Now, he hosts an annual Cross Country event in Lakeland, Florida where kids from Elementary School to Middle School to High School compete in every August. He also has a running training program.
If you ever get to hear his faith based speeches, you know they are always heartfelt and inspiring.
The top 10 winners of each race get a Medal that's a replica of his 1968 Olympic Medal but with an image of him running on it. He presents each medal to each recipient.
I'm looking forward to seeing him again at next year's Jim Ryun Invitational.

If you are ever in St. Louis, Missouri, the Cathedral Basiilica is a must stop location. 41,500,000 glass tesserae mosaic tiles cover 83,000 square feet of interior. Dating back to 1912, There are 7,000 different colors and it's the largest mosaic collection in the world outside of Russia.
There are so many beautiful views inside this Cathedral Basiilica which was given its designation by Pope John Paul II in 1997 before his visit there in 1999.
