Our last full day, last Friday, in Colorado we drove through Glenwood Canyon. What an amazing drive along the Colorado River through the scenic, rugged canyon. It lead us to a beautiful town called Glenwood Springs. While driving through town, we stopped at a little park called Veltus along the Roaring Fork River. Captured a new Woodpecker and I finally got my pic of a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker 🤣. Such a beautiful place ❤️

Last Thursday morning in Colorado, Traci had to work so I ventured out to a place called Miners Creek in Frisco, CO. Captured my first Mountain Bluebird! Was only there for a couple hours but did hike up to a lake called Rainbow Lake and watched the swallows dance above the water collecting bugs to take back to their nests ❤️
Was such an incredible morning of blue sky, no Canadian smoke and amazing scenery!

Got home well after 2:30 am Saturday night/Sunday morning after 3 flight delays and a check in bag left in Colorado 😂😴
So playing catch up on some of Traci and I’s adventure pics when we weren’t sharing our trip with family and friends ❤️
We seemed to have missed all the N-95 mask required Lake Orion air but it’s always good to finally sleep in your own bed.
I think we missed the hi temps and Taco Bell lettuce as well 😂. Met a friend on the flight home that said ‘of all the adjectives, did they really have to use the word ‘explosive’’ 😂 💩 🤣
Found a cool overlooked place called Eagle River Preserve that offered some pretty cool captures.

First full day (Saturday) we had Traci’s children visit us in Edward, CO. We took a ride up to Piney Lake so they could experience such an absolutely beautiful, tranquil and majestic piece of Colorado backcountry ❤️. So glad they got to experience it and thankful that we were able to have a return visit. At the end of this season, they were denied another 15 year lease by the governing board that controls that land. They have to remove every structure on the property (cabins, store, restaurant, etc). It will be put up for sale to the highest bidder 😞
The owner of the resort was nearly brought to tears explaining to us that they offered an insane amount for a 1 year lease, knowing they couldn’t afford it, so they could tell the press that the owner refused the extended lease 😞
It makes this trip even more meaningful because you just don’t know what it will turn into once privately owned.
Anyway, Monday we took a trip to Sylvan Lake State Park and it turned into quite the hummingbird sort of day 😂

Wish there was a cool story about these fledgling Western Kingbirds in their nest……like climbing a mountain or traversing up a cliffside-but they were in a tree in Costco parking lot in Denver 😂

These are the rest of our pics from our Friday morning walk around Lake St Clair. We were fortunate to see all 3 of the hawks (can’t call them babies any longer). Bummer the canal trail is now closed but they’re still working on that bridge that’s been out since the first time I ever walked that park years ago 😂.

I think we captured the coolest display of sibling rivalry! There’s 3 baby (almost grown now) red tail hawks that live at Lake St Clair Metropark. We watched as one flew down into thick weeds and caught, of all things, a TOAD!!
As it flew on the top of a dead tree, it wasn’t long before sibling #2 chased his toad catching sibling off the perch to steal its catch. Hawk #1 said ‘not so fast!’ It circled back and reclaimed its feast (snack 😂). To the victor goes the spoils!

Happy 4th of July Everyone 🇺🇸🎆
Took a hot, muggy walk Wed morning for a couple hours at Kensington Metropark. I think it was too hot the birds as well. Maybe that’s where ‘this is for the birds’ expression came from. Enjoy and be safe today!

Traci and I spent a nice relaxing Birthday evening kayaking in Independence Oaks….without any cameras. We went out again last night with our cameras and grabbed some cool shots. Stay cool and be safe in the sweltering heat.

Last Monday Traci and I went to Fisherman's Island in Charlevoix to find the Piping Plovers.
They are listed as one of North America's most carefully protected beach-nesting birds. The area is fenced off and well protected and we kept our distance. With my lens I was able to capture some amazing shots and the pair paid absolutely no attention to us-probably never even noticed us. You can see from the shots they are heavily banded and you can also see the different banding for the male and female. I don't know which is which, but what an experience watching them run across the sand collecting insects. I even captured some with the bugs in their beaks before they were quickly consumed ❤. They exhibit the most charming behavior and it's truly a rarity to capture them
