When I was pregnant with Evie I remember listening to Bruno Mars singing, "When you smile, the whole world stops and stares for awhile" and I literally saw HER face. I knew who Evie was before they even told me it was girl. She was never what anyone expected; hated pink, refused dresses and would rather stab her eye than put on makeup. She's taught me what it looks like to truly not care what anyone thinks. She's quiet and thinks about her emotions, often processes them on her own terms. Sometimes I have to coax her into telling me the day's tea, it's not in her nature to jump in the car and talk my ear off. We love car dancing to Whitney Houston and Goodwill hauls on a lazy Saturday. She's a hell of a soccer player and one of the greatest joys of my life is watching her play on the pitch. She teaches me every day what resilience looks like and I am immeasurably blessed to call her mine. Love you forever, Evangeline Lucia.
