Brown County State Park, 4/19/26

As much as I hate waking up at 2 am for spring milky way, I don’t mind getting to hang around to watch the sunrise afterwards.

Hoosier’s Nest Milky Way

I’ve shot the Milky Way stretching above this shelter in Brown County State Park a couple of times but never felt like I got it right. Turns out I just needed to turn on the lights 🤷‍♂️

I love having two cameras because while my my dedicated astro camera is running on autopilot with an intervalometer I can play around with my second camera trying odd angles, different lenses, and perspectives that I wouldn’t have thought to try at first. Most of the time I come home with a memory card full of nothing special, but occasionally there’s a banger. Never tried shooting astro with my Tamron 28-200, which is my go to daytime lens, but this shot one has me rethinking that

Tulip Trestle Milky Way

Woke up incredibly early this morning and drove down to Greene County to take advantage of a new moon with perfectly clear skies. Tulip Trestle is easily one of the darkest spots in Indiana, a really incredible area for stargazing. This was my second try shooting the Milky Way out here - much more successful than my first attempt a couple of years ago when I had to fight smoke from 4th of July fireworks. As much as I hate the 2 am wake up calls, I have to say getting that first glimpse of spring Milky Way with morning fog rolling in is always worth it.

Two years ago today I was flying down country roads with the windows down singing along to What’s Up? by 4 Non Blondes as loud as possible, riding the high of experience a total solar eclipse a few hours earlier. For the rest of my life, every time I hear this song I will be brought back to memories of one of the coolest days of all the days I’ve had.
