📍Whale Cove, Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia

🫎You spend days watching for a moose on the Cabot Trail, searching every tree line and bog near Cheticamp, only to come up completely empty-handed.

So, we decided to@just live this beautiful day and enjoy a casual coastal drive along the water. To photograph and soak up the summer weather and feel the tides.

Then you pull into Whale Cove, and there she is—sitting on a hill like she owns the ocean view.

That’s the beauty of RV life. Base camping at Cheticamp gave us the perfect launching pad to explore the steep coastal roads, leave the rig parked, and let the coast surprise us.

Sometimes the unplanned detours turn into the best stories of the trip.

📍 Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia

Beyond the iconic lighthouse, Peggy’s Cove is filled with quiet, colorful corners that make time feel like it’s standing still.

The perks of having our rig parked in Hammonds Plains, it was a convenient area for all the amenities; as well as making it an easy drive to explore this little slice of heaven several times capturing early morning, mid day and sunset (photos to come).

Nova Scotia’s coast has a character all its own and we are fortunate to have been able to take it slow and easy 🌊⚓️

📍 Ovens Natural Park: Sea Caves, Gold Rush History & Nostalgic Camping Vibes

If you’re traveling Nova Scotia’s scenic Lighthouse Route near Lunenburg, put Ovens Natural Park on your radar. This privately owned, 180-acre pristine reserve of coastal forest is packed with dramatic scenery and a really cool story.

Back in 1861, this spot was the heart of a major gold rush! At its height, a boomtown of over a thousand miners sprung up complete with hotels, stores, and even a bank. Today, none of those original buildings remain, but the wild, coastal beauty that surrounded them certainly does.

🌊 The Cliffside Trail & Sea Caves
We arrived on a cloudy morning, and the park immediately gave off a wonderful, old-fashioned camping vibe. We paid our entrance fee at the main office and set off along the nature trail.

• The Views: The trail runs right along the edge of towering, rocky cliffs with front-row seats to the crashing Atlantic.

• The Caves: The highlight is walking down the weathered cement stairs that take you right down into the mouth of one of the famous sea caves—or "ovens"—that give the park its name. The sound of the water echoing inside is incredible!

• A Lucky Sight: If you look closely off in the distance in the first few photos, you can actually spot the historic Bluenose sailing past the coastline.

🌭 Nostalgic Road Trip Comforts
After exploring the trail, we wrapped up our visit in the simplest, best way—grabbing a hot dog and hamburger from the old-school park food counter. It’s the kind of nostalgic, slow-paced stop that reminds you why taking the scenic route is always worth it.
