July 1st - Canada Day🇨🇦
In the words of my daughter;
“A day of fond memories in a town that triples in size. A day of numerous red and white with the only blue being in the sky. A parade that can last for hours. A barbecue where you are surrounded by family you may not have seen for years. It’s where high school reunions stand together and hose the crowd down with water guns and candy. Where you probably have a family member proudly pulling a float with his tractor. If you’re from this town, it’s the day you return home. Where your friends know who your kids are without ever having met them. And if you’re lucky, you have the choice between a fair or a stampede, or maybe even both since they’re right next to each other. Or maybe your family has a softball team for the weekend family softball tournament and you have a game to play. And if you’re still awake by 11pm when it’s finally dark enough, you get to end the evening with the fireworks show across the field and night games with the cousins and aunts/uncles. For me July 1st will always trump July 4th in my childhood memories. It’s a part of my identity. I am Canadian🍁
