Three years ago, I came to America with $500 in my pocket, two kids, my mother-in-law, and a cat.
Just a few weeks into living here, I knew for sure that I wanted to live in Orange County.
I drove past the bridges in Jeffrey Park hundreds of times, dreaming of riding bikes with my kids and taking photos there. And just a year later, I was already living within walking distance of those bridges!
By the second year, I got another cat, which I had wanted for so long. I took a flight to Ukraine and adopted HER!
And this past year, another dream came true – I got dream a car.
What did I notice about myself in these three years that helped me avoid despair and keep moving forward?
1/ Every single day, I ask myself what I’ve done to make my dreams come true and what more I can do. I think about it, plan small steps, and take them.
2/ When I don’t see the results I want, I focus on what I’ve already done and analyze how to strengthen it (because if I’m already doing it, it’s working!). I don’t jump to something NEW – I focus on building on my existing skills and growing them.
3/ I regularly meet with a therapist/coach. She helps me see my strengths and weaknesses, handle doubts, and find support. I’m not doing this alone. Blessed to be under your protection
4/ I started praising myself every day for being talented and unique, and I’m excited to tell anyone who’s ready to become one of my photography heroes. I believe that if I don’t talk about myself, how will people ever know I exist? :)
So, it turns out that every step – big or small – matters. What’s important is consistency!
Do you still think its just luck?
