Firefighters gained ground Friday on three brush fires in western Miami-Dade, focusing on hotspots and cutting power in affected areas to help contain the flames. The fires forced the closure of the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes between Okeechobee Road and Northwest 41st Street. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the shutdown was necessary to support firefighting efforts and protect public safety.
