Not bears, but some of my favorite birds that we see here on the Bear Coast on a daily basis. In the first image, a bald eagle rests on piece of driftwood silhouetted by the blazing sunrise. In the second, a mother spruce grouse and her chick cross the road in front of a dark forest backdrop while keeping an eye out for danger.

A pile of bears, a legend lives on. After several long weeks awaiting the return of Crimp Ear, our beloved 21 year old matriarch, our hopes had started to dwindle as we began to face the possibility that she had indeed moved on from her long and fruitful life in the wild. And then, when we least expected it and nearly two months later than she showed up last year, there she was. Not alone this time, but with three adorable cubs ready to learn from her decades of mastery on this landscape. A moment of awe, inspiration, and pure respect for the resilience of these incredible animals.
