Imagine living in these places 150 years ago.

The buildings dotting the vast, open landscapes of the American West are absolutely beautiful. The modern homes seem near the apex of luxurious living. The shack in the second shot serves a stark reminder that living out here wasn't always luxurious. Imagine sharing that shack with your parents and six siblings during a winter blizzard with no power or water.

This marsh wren was calling out for almost an hour before I got a good look at it.

There are a lot of new birds in Jackson lately. I checked two new warblers off the list. I saw nearly a dozen other new birds, including this marsh wren, in a pretty short amount of time. When this wren did pop out, it was only for a few moments to select the perfect bit of building material. I'm really happy with this shot, but it makes me think that even 1/5000 isn't fast enough for these flitty, zippy, little birds.

It's been lovely sharing adventures with someone for the last six months.

I've been doing some pretty amazing stuff for a while. I hiked the triple crown in back to back to back years. I got to spend a summer in the interior of Alaska. I had a few road trips across the lower 48 and visited reported UFO hotspots, the grave of a psychic dog, many of "the world's largest" items, and a hundred other tourist traps.

I've also been telling myself for a while that the biggest thing missing in my life is a partner to share it with. In the end, I found someone who puts a lot of effort into protecting her skin. She's been a good influence on me; I've been a lot more consistent about wearing sunscreen, among other things.

I'm approaching the end of my first year in Jackson. My life has changed drastically. My is continuing to change in big ways. And for the first time in what feels like forever, it feels like everything is headed in the right direction.
