I HAD A HEART ATTACK: This post is surreal. On yesterday I had a heart attack. It started with a pain in the back of my neck that traveled to my right jaw and then to my bottom front teeth. It came in waves. I was hoping it would go away, but it didn’t. I wanted to lie down but I couldn’t. My wife suggested we go to the ER. I’m glad we did. We get there and I describe my symptoms to the Dr. After reading the EKG, he calmly told me, “I think you’re having a heart attack.” All of a sudden the room fills with nurses and techs.

If you know me well, you know that my dad died of Sudden Cardiac Death back 2005. He was 47. That has always haunted me. I made it through 47 and 48 with no problems. At 49 that Ghost appeared. Thankfully, I listened to my wife and went to the ER. The Dr. found a blockage and cleared it. BTW, I watched the whole thing. I’m as good as new. That’s why I’m smiling in that pic.

The Dr. placed no restrictions on me. I have new energy, No shortness of breath or feeling tired. I’m home and I’m GOOD.

This post is for the fellas. Go see a Dr. for preventive care. Don’t wait until its too late. You may not be as fortunate as I was. There’s nothing like seeing your loved ones cry and friends telling you they need you around because the think this is it.

As we close on Juneteenth 2026, I can’t help but imagine what my ancestors went through for 400 YEARS.

400 years is not a short time.
That’s 4 GENERATIONS OF PEOPLE.
IN BO***GE.
IN CHAINS.
IN HELL.

And then, once freed, The EVIL that held them captive, never told them and kept them in SLAVERY 2 YEARS and 5 and half months longer.

The beautiful and talented Devonna Curtis and I didn’t create this work with that in mind but when I look at these images, I imagine the constraints of SLAVERY and JIM CROW that our ancstors had to bear.

Story time: I was commissioned by the Mississippi Museum of Art to capture some of the artist featured in its Great Migration exhibition. One of them was the legendary Carrie Mae Weems . Her Energy was amazing! After asking me to test my light on her Prada purse 😂 she allowed me to capture her portrait. She then asked if she could capture my portrait. How could I say no? The rest is history.

I got blessed that day.
