Really looking forward to positive conversation and catching up with my friend Rita Watson from my project in honor of MLK Jr. day this upcoming Monday. What questions do you have for Rita? Let me know, and I’ll be sure to include them in my call with her!

Q&A w/RITA WATSON— In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday the 18th, we’ll be catching up with Ch III’s Rita Watson and would love your input!

While Rita won’t be marching this year due to Covid concerns, she has been an organizer of the MLK Jr. day March in since 1982. What questions do you have for Rita about practicing nonviolence, her journey from the segregated south to Cheyenne, Wyoming, or anything else you’d love to know?

More about Rita:
Rita Watson grew up during the Jim Crow segregated south in Durham, North Carolina. She was the first Black person to work at Woolworth’s Five and Dime store in Durham and continued to advance in her career as the climate improved for African Americans in the United States. In 1965, Rita moved from the south to the rural West after her husband was transferred to F.E. Warren Airforce Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The first time she and her husband drove into Cheyenne, she asked him to show her downtown. “This is it!” he proclaimed. Certain they would only stay for a couple of years, Rita began her tenure with the state of Wyoming and became active in the community. Cheyenne’s been home for Rita and her family for over half a century where’s she worked for every Superintendent of Education since 1974.

So lucky to have amazing clients who become friends, mentors and even sponsors for — wishing a very happy birthday🥳 to this one of a kind boss lady, ! • “Throughout my career, I was often the only woman in the room. I had to create my own ways of surviving. As I rose through management, I made it my business to bring other women along. In mentoring women, I find myself recommending some steps to follow: 1. Raise your hand, 2. Ask for the job, 3. Work for leaders, 4. Trust your intuition, and 5. Take risks. I’m not done yet and neither are you.” -Debby Hopkins, founder/former CEO of Citi Ventures, former CFO at Boeing and former VP of Finance of General Motors Europe.💥💥💥
