This beautiful quote is often attributed to Shakespeare or George Santayana, but only recently was it discovered to be written by an unknown poet, Reginald Holmes, as part of his poem, The Magic of Sound.

I’ve heard the soft whisper of wind in the pine trees,
The silvery ripple of brooklets at play;
I’ve heard the low voice of a sweet singing mother
As she sang to her child at the end of the day.

I’ve heard the faint rustle of sails in the sunset
And blue waves caressing the wild, rockbound shore;
The whistle of trains as they cross the green prairie
And mountains re-echo the cataract’s roar.

The notes of the organs in ancient cathedrals,
Where hearts of the faithful are lifted in song;
I’ve heard the gay laughter as children were playing,
The chatter and buzz of a large, happy throng.

The earth has its music for those who will listen;
Its bright variations forever abound.
With all of the wonders that God has bequeathed us,
There’s nothing that thrills like the magic of sound.

With a little snow on the ground (temporarily), dark beer is speaking to us. And right now we have 3 very different dark beers on tap and available to-go.

Our Six Grain Stout is a robust stout brewed with oats, multiple types of caramel malts, chocolate malt, black roasted barley, and a bit of cold brewed coffee. It’s complex yet balanced.

Then Sugar Bob’s Rauchbier is a smoked brown ale with a rich malt backbone that compliments the smoked maple syrup that we finish this beer with. A truly unique version of this German style.

Lastly, our Bourbon Barrel Double Brown is deceptively smooth and delicious. The oak barrel lends this beer a ton of vanilla and caramel notes, with a nice aged bourbon finish. This specialty brew is perfect for nights around a campfire or lounging by the wood stove, or it makes for a great dessert pairing.

All 3 are available right now, but the Stout and the Rauchbier are on their last kegs. So stop in to try some before they’re gone!

We’re open until December 23rd:
Thurs 2-8
Fri 2-8
Sat 12-8
Sun 12-6

Pottery from the Heart.

Since 1980 we've been creating pottery out of our studio in an old grange hall in the picturesque town of Jay, New York. Our love of pottery started in college – the absorbing calmness of throwing a ball of clay on the wheel, the satisfying challenge of balancing form and function in your work. No two pieces of pottery are alike, and nothing compares to the sense of excitement you get when you finally open the kiln and see how the pots turned out.

We hope when you hold a piece of our work, you're not only given a sense of the Adirondacks, but also a feeling of home.
