So excited that the temperature dropped a little in northeast Georgia but the humidity is still hanging on.
Fall is so close, but not quite close enough. I don't think l've ever been more ready for the season to change. I'm so anxious for cool mornings, glowing goldenrod, and the sound of elk bugling in the Smokies. This was taken last fall in Great Smokies National Park.

What are you looking forward to this fall?

Two polar bear cubs wrestling beside their mother on the shores of Hudson Bay. We watched them play while she rested nearby, seemingly unbothered by the chaos.

These are the moments that make all the early mornings, long days and miles traveled worth it. I could have watched them all day. šŸ¤

Special thanks to Dave Sandford for capturing my side of this moment.

Another view of one of the bears I posted earlier this week. This photograph offers a slightly better look at what was left of dinner on its face. Our guides suspected a goose had been on the menu. šŸ©øšŸ‘€

The alarm went off at 4:30 a.m.

My family stayed asleep. I grabbed my camera and headed out into Badlands National Park alone.

There’s something pretty special about being out before sunrise, when everything is still quiet and you’re just waiting to see what the morning will give you.

And then the sky started to glow.

Standing there watching the first light spill across the Badlands, I knew the 4:30 alarm had been worth it.

Apparently I have a whole lot sitting in my archives that I never shared here. Starting with this one. 🐻

Less than a couple weeks ago, I was standing on the edge of Hudson Bay watching polar bears in the wild. Not all that long ago, it felt like one of those experiences I would only ever dream about.

There's something a little surreal about coming home from a trip like this. You spend months planning and anticipating it, and then suddenly you're sitting at an airport gate with memory cards full of photographs and a head full of moments you're not quite ready to leave behind.

Of course I'm excited about the photographs. But I think what I'II remember most is everything surrounding them... the anticipation of every sighting, the people I shared it with, and that feeling of looking through my lens at a polar bear and thinking, I cannot believe I'm actually here.
I've realized more and more over the last few years how much I value experiences like this. The photographs eventually become part of my portfolio, but the experience of making them becomes part of me.
