Captured ...

I was lucky enough to have some time to spend out along the river. The day was sunny, the temps were rising. A gorgeous day and time spent with Rita. It's the small moment that make it all worth it!

The bald eagle dropped from the tree branch, circling over the river. Suddenly dropping down leveling off right over the river, extending their claws and snatching their mid-morning meal. Majestic. The splash behind as the fish was pulled from the water the exclamation point on the capture.

Take two! Another shot from along the riverbank of the Des Moines River.

I love the early mornings along the river. Right after sunrise, it's me, maybe a couple of other people fishing, and the animals beginning to stir and grace us with their presence. It gives me time to slow down from the daily grind and recenter myself.

I was lucky enough to grab a shot of this fellow coming in for a landing ...

Good morning, everyone!

A couple of weeks ago, I wandered out to one of my favorite places along the river. Peaceful morning, peaceful moment! Very quiet along the river bank with just a few critters up and moving about.

Soar ...

This weekend, I got out to one of my favorite spots. Arriving early, the river was calm and nobody else was out and about. As the sun rose into the sky, I was graced by the presence of several juvenile eagles that began to play - moving up and down the river channel. Chasing each other while their parents calmly rested in the branches of the tallest trees stretching out of the riverbank.

Calming is an understatement. I relish these moments. It is my time to break away from the rush of life and allow my batteries to recharge.

Don't forget to find your peace!

Hello ..

Continuing to show work from the weekend trip that Rita and I took along the back roads of Central Iowa. While capturing the sculpture and the surrounding landscape, I grabbed my long lens and began to capture the birds resting on various parts of the sculpture. I ended up capturing a shot of this little one peeking out from the hub. She appeared to look down and acknowledge us before she scooted further back into the opening.

It was a wonderful morning, the sun out, the skies clear, the fields along the road welcoming us on our journey.

The Harvest is Complete …

This weekend, my wife, suggested travelling out to a nearby location where an individual had constructed a metal sculpture made from the metal of old wagon wheels. It was a gorgeous day for an adventure, so we hopped in our SUV and headed out on the back roads of Central Iowa. Arriving at the designated farmland South and West of Grinnell.

The sun had barely risen over the horizon and the skies were painted a beautiful pastel blue. Not a cloud in the sky. The sculpture rising up out of the prairie, reaching up into the sky. All the while displaying the strength of the land and the people that work hard day after day to feed the world. What a beautiful and poignant reminder of the value of the land and the skill needed to work the land and bring crops to the table.

Get out, explore! Step away from the busy life you lead and take a moment to appreciate the bounty of the land around us!

Moments …

I grabbed this pic as I wandered the banks of the Des Moines River over the weekend. Honestly, there wasn’t a lot of wildlife out and about, so it was me, Mother Nature and enjoying the moment. The only disruption to my peace was the occasional dog or hiker out getting their morning slice of peacefulness.

This gull was flying up and down the channel, ignoring her flock as they sat on one of the sandbars in the river. Her movements graceful as she carved through the air and then took longer moments of riding the air currents. She was fascinating to watch as she moved above the river. I was able to catch her reflection as she glided towards me.

Our days are filled with moments. Some good, some stressful, some downright ugly. Our resilience as humans gives us the ability to respond to these moments. Life is hard enough. Find the beauty around you and know that you bring something special into the world and that you make a difference.

Unexpected Surprise …

I left the house early yesterday with the intent of spending time at one of my favorite haunts to get some wildlife pictures. The animals weren’t in the mood to cooperate - it happens sometimes. Anyhow, as I waited by the river, I began to capture photos of the landscape around me. Soon noticing the moon still hanging in the sky above me.

The sky, a baby blue color, with the moon just sitting there. It really was gorgeous. I lifted my camera up and clicked away, capturing the attached photo.

Sometimes our minds are set one way and then we’re lucky when the Universe pulls us in another direction!

As Leaders, we need to adjust to the unexpected. Our best laid plans can be unwoven in a matter of seconds depending on the day. Customers changing their minds, competitors changing the landscape in front of us, partners making unexpected moves or team members uncovering the unexpected. Our job is to listen, see and make adjustments where needed. Sometimes that means guiding the team, sometimes that means standing out of the way because they’ve got this! Don’t be afraid of the change. Embrace it and when needed, help your team get back on the path.

Just Splashin’ Around …

The last time I got time to sit along the riverbank, I had the pleasure of watching this pooch playfully dance around in the water. As her human patiently worked her fishing line, the dog took moments to rush into the water and splash around and have fun. Always coming out on the sandbank near her human to spray her with water as she shook off from playing in the river.

It was fun to watch the playful nature of this dog. She had no concerns other than having fun and splashing around in the water.

At some point, go dance in the water. Laugh and have some fun! Life’s hard enough, let’s remember that it’s ok to smile and laugh!

Last night, I was able to step out into the front yard and capture the Waning Gibbous phase of the moon. Clouds were scattered around the moon creating a fine haze, occasionally breaking and allowing Luna to shine in all her glory. I flipped the lights off outside and tucked into a corner of the house to remove as much ambient light as possible and then pointed up towards the sky to capture her rising into the night sky.

Next time your out and the moon is hanging in the sky, visiting you. Take a moment to appreciate the awe of that body travelling the sky! Then reflect on how many people help you along your journey!

Together, we got this!
