SURPRISE!
Today is an exciting day for something old to become new again.
One of my oldest, largest, & most beloved projects to date is the noir photonovel “Cold Brewed”, created with my dear friend Lance Schaubert. We conceived it years ago as a way to merge my photos w/ his writing, and released it as an “i-book.” This was a digital format that unfortunately never gained much traction. That was ok with us. We made something we were proud of, had a blast doing it, and never regretted the time we put in. But we still hoped that maybe someday…. it could present to the world as a physical book.
It took us 10+ years, but HERE WE ARE: it is, as of today, available in paperback! Thanks to Lance for doing the hard work of re-formatting for print. I’ve seen it and it’s beautiful. And I’m still so proud of this project.
The link is below. I know, $25 seems high for a paperback. But we’re publishing this thing independently, and I promise you- this thing is THICK, very visual, and a very unique story for your shelf or coffee table. Profits- which we’d be seeing for the first time- will be split between Lance, myself, and our cast, that ensemble of baristas who so kindly donated their time for our insane story, donning trench coats and fedoras in the midst of unfiltered cigarette smoke (bc 1940s ci******es don’t have filters) and ungodly temperatures.

SYNOPSIS:
Cold Brewed takes place in a classic prohibition-era world where coffee is currency. The story uses silent film and film noir techniques, but favors classy black and white photographs over pencil sketches--a grittier grandson of the narrative form developed in Selznick's books "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" and "Wonderstruck." Shot and produced in and around Joplin, Missouri, Cold Brewed testifies to the art revival happening in our formerly tornado-devastated town.
