Now that we’re settled back in a place that feels anything like ‘winter’ … here are some things winter has taught me — save this as a reminder for next winter ❄️

01. Cold is just a sensation & not an inherently negative one. It’s sharp and piercing and pulls you instantly into the present moment. It’s a teacher and offers, if we accept it, a reset.

02. Winter welcomes us to nourish the body & mind — warm bone broths, herbal teas, big pots of soup, the decadence of candle light, reading a few great books, writing more, getting comfortable with silence. The invitation to rest was refreshing.

03. With more time inside, we have the opportunity to learn more about things we’re interested in. Rather than wishing away this season, ask —— how can I make the most of this?

04. Hydration is essential. Guzzling gallons of water actually desalinates the body — instead try homemade electrolyte drinks and salting your water, tea, broth, raw milk. I also slathered myself like a glazed donut in & daily and took magnesium baths.

05. I had been letting fear (of looking stupid, of being bad at something, of getting hurt, etc) hold me back. This season challenged that… dunking in an ocean while snow falls? Ok. Skiing down a mountain where I could smash my face? Let’s go. Look like a fool wobbling on ice skates as little kids whoosh past me? Sign me up. This winter was like “Hi Ego! I see you.” 👋🏽 and I’m a stronger person because of it. Identifying blocks that are keeping us stuck is the first step to releasing them.

06. Business is seasonal, we cannot harvest year round. I’ve known this deep down for a long time now but this season ushered this wisdom in full clarity. By fully embracing this, we can nurture our soil, grow abundantly and produce the most rich and nourishing work.

Wintering will look different for each of us but after this year, I think it might be the season that offers the most honest insight and sage lessons IF we’re open to receiving. As spring quickly approaches, reflect –– what lessons did you take away from winter?

In 30 or 50 years from now, we’ll likely not remember the material things we owned, the cars we drove. We’ll laugh at what we thought was ‘technology’ or ‘fashion’ … but what will we remember? The truly timeless things. How we showed up. How we loved. How and when we leaned in. How we made others feel. How we navigated life – fully, messily and willingly.

We’ve been thinking about those on the frontline of this pandemic, who are waking up everyday and going into work, risking their health to serve their community.

Doctors, nurses, first responders, midwives, doulas and all healthcare providers.
Farmers, grocery store clerks, food bank employees and volunteers.
Post office workers, truck drivers and warehouse workers.
Waste collectors, janitors and sanitation workers.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
For risking your lives to save and support others. I’m sure I missed people in the list above but my heart has been stretched simply thinking about everyone across the world who is taking action to care for their fellow (wo)man.

We chose to say by writing our mailman/delivery guys thank you letters, donating to Crooked Media's Coronavirus Relief Fund (https://secure.actblue.com/donate/coronavirus-relief #) & by sending a care package to our favorite ICU nurse (and cousin!) who also happens to be 7 months pregnant. There are so many little things we can do to help those on the frontline.

I would LOVE if you would join us in spreading some kindness. Your gestures can be grand or small, they all make an impact. Use the tag and let’s start a giant ripple effect! ✨

Living on an island in the middle of the sea where 90% of the food is shipped in really changes your perspective. One of our goals over the past couple of years has been to shop locally for our food – it was tricky to find the network and a system but we're finally in a flow for which I am so thankful – and now one of our goals is to grow more of our own food.

If I was thinking this way, I knew others were too.

Then I found this article (TAP TO READ IT):

As coronavirus keeps millions of people around the globe at home, anxiety and foresight are driving people to see the importance of locally grown food AND start or expand their gardens as a real means to feed themselves 🙌🏼🥕🌿🍊

People are thinking, ‘If I can’t get toilet paper, am I going to be able to get food?’

From panic planting to cooperative gardens, farmers focused on equity and food justice know that ‘if you can feed yourself, you can free yourself.’

These times might look different, feel different & take on different forms BUT the important things are the same:
love, communication, support & togetherness.

Loving on our family even from afar 🖤 I've seen more of our loved ones faces in the past few weeks than we usually see all year! That has struck me (definitely not something I'm proud of) & makes me want to keep this up!

"For some, offsetting is an easy way to negate some of the harmful effects we cause simply existing in a modern society. But it’s also faced a lot of criticism as an imperfect solution and a 'license to pollute.' It’s confusing — which is why we’re here to break it down for you."

If you feel guilty every time you fill up your gas tank in the face of the climate crisis, you aren’t alone. Thanks to the “Greta Thurnberg effect,” more consumers than ever are going carbon neutral, supporting projects that promise to help clean up the atmosphere. But how do we know which off...

Let this be the time that strikes you. That makes you challenge the systems we’ve subscribed to (both unconsciously and consciously) and see how they’re serving us – I know I am. I think this time has many deep, important lessons to teach us.

To quote, Eredità:

“The things this time is teaching us: How it is possible to live lightly on our planet, for one. And how adaptable we are, both our routines and the way we engage in commerce. It is teaching us something about our webs of connectivity, how any sense of a siloed existence isn’t the whole picture. It’s teaching us how to make a village out of a city, each neighborhood finding its sources of support. It’s teaching us how sweet stillness can be. How to create space for intimate connection, even over the internet. It’s reacquainting us with the particular joy of reading a whole book, cover to cover in one sitting, drinking it down. It’s teaching us how to ask for the support we need, and how to know, in our body, that there are people who will be eager to help. It’s making the vast distance between California and New York feel tiny, in this new reality the construct of space feels so different. As does the construct of time. The definitions of each variable, more malleable than they’d seemed.”

We are reconnecting to what’s important.
We are relearning what truly matters.
We are realizing our direct impact on the earth.
We are learning we can continue living in different ways, less harmful ways.

There is so much to be learned here.
