Now that we’re settled back in a place that feels anything like ‘winter’ … here are some things winter has taught me — save this as a reminder for next winter ❄️
⠀
01. Cold is just a sensation & not an inherently negative one. It’s sharp and piercing and pulls you instantly into the present moment. It’s a teacher and offers, if we accept it, a reset.
⠀
02. Winter welcomes us to nourish the body & mind — warm bone broths, herbal teas, big pots of soup, the decadence of candle light, reading a few great books, writing more, getting comfortable with silence. The invitation to rest was refreshing.
⠀
03. With more time inside, we have the opportunity to learn more about things we’re interested in. Rather than wishing away this season, ask —— how can I make the most of this?
⠀
04. Hydration is essential. Guzzling gallons of water actually desalinates the body — instead try homemade electrolyte drinks and salting your water, tea, broth, raw milk. I also slathered myself like a glazed donut in & daily and took magnesium baths.
⠀
05. I had been letting fear (of looking stupid, of being bad at something, of getting hurt, etc) hold me back. This season challenged that… dunking in an ocean while snow falls? Ok. Skiing down a mountain where I could smash my face? Let’s go. Look like a fool wobbling on ice skates as little kids whoosh past me? Sign me up. This winter was like “Hi Ego! I see you.” 👋🏽 and I’m a stronger person because of it. Identifying blocks that are keeping us stuck is the first step to releasing them.
⠀
06. Business is seasonal, we cannot harvest year round. I’ve known this deep down for a long time now but this season ushered this wisdom in full clarity. By fully embracing this, we can nurture our soil, grow abundantly and produce the most rich and nourishing work.
⠀
Wintering will look different for each of us but after this year, I think it might be the season that offers the most honest insight and sage lessons IF we’re open to receiving. As spring quickly approaches, reflect –– what lessons did you take away from winter?
