Most people I grew up with are confused when I tell them I’m doing wedding and family photography now.
I always excelled in math and science, and have a degree in physics. However while I felt like I was supposed to go down that road I always felt drawn to the visual arts.
I got myself a minor in design and tried to find jobs in that field and eventually was able to find a job in the marketing department at a resort. I loved the creativity of going out and taking photos and video of the events, designing brochures and the website but the constant need to sell and redo the same things to keep things “fresh” every year started to become stale and unfulfilling to me.
I often told people that I had no interest in photographing families or weddings because I thought they weren’t technically challenging enough, and I wanted to push myself to learn and grow more creatively, boy was I wrong.
My eyes were opened after I got married and then even more so after having my daughter. I experienced how special working to build a relationship and family is, and the fulfillment I got from capturing that was overflowing.
The creative challenge turned into connecting with couples, understanding what makes their story special to them, and dedicating my time to learning how to pose them well and make them look their best and feel comfortable on camera. It became spending the time to connect with kids at photo shoots, learn who they are and figure out how to make them light up on camera.
This is who I am now, and I hope that my joy and fulfillment shows through in my work.
I am thankful and excited to dedicate my life to celebrating and capturing families at any point in their journey, whether it’s dating, engagement, marriage, growing their family or having a full family.

As a family photographer, I’ve interacted with hundreds of families and noticed that the Dad can often the difference maker when it comes to the session. When dads are engaged, doting, and present, the entire family dynamic is lively while remaining more at peace resulting in an amazing session.
Moms usually don’t have a choice but to be present and engaged, so a father choosing to be present takes a lot of the stress off of her.
One of the things that I’ve spent a lot of time on is trying to find out what makes men feel disengaged from a shoot, and figure out ways to help. I’ve found that a lot of times men can almost feel like an accessory in a photoshoot, and that the photos aren’t for them. Doing a few poses that he finds fun like photos of a him playing with their kids, having one on their shoulders, or throwing their kid in the air help a dad feel like an active part of the shoot rather than just being required to be there or else he gets in trouble.
My goal is that families come out of each session having had fun, feeling closer to each other than they did before, and excited to see the photos they got of some brand new fun memories together.

Losing someone in your family makes everything hard. Work. Life. Rest. But coming out of just losing someone in our family, we have a deep gratitude for everything this process has taught us.
We’ve learned that our lives are short and made up of little moments so we must learn to delight in even the mundane or repetitive tasks in life.

Everyone leaves a legacy and WHY you work matters more than the work you do in itself.

Everything. Everything. EVERYTHING is about love, family, and relationships. We must lay down everything in our lives that hold us back from loving others, especially our immediate family.

We had to step back for a long time to grieve the loss of Eden’s mother, and catch up but we’re jumping back online with more purpose in the work we do capturing love and building legacy.

Traditionally, a wedding veil represented the covering or protection a woman had before being united completely to her husband. The lifting of the veil in the ceremony was a picture of transitioning into an entirely new season of life as one united whole. Even when brides choose a veil just for their beauty and grace, I still love the symbolism behind them. This bride had a glamorous long veil that allowed me to pull it into the foreground, leading to a clear path to her and her groom. The veil holds the bride’s story leading up to this moment and the light bursts through in the horizon as a means of demonstrating the long path of love ahead of them. A beautiful wedding, and a beautiful sunset

Family Photos are some of the most important photos of the whole wedding day; but with the excitement of the reception so close, lining up for photos might not feel like a top priority at the time.
As your photographer it is my job to be fun, fast and efficient with these photos, but here are a few tips to help make your family photos turn out amazing! All without taking too much precious time on your wedding day.

1. A first look is an amazing way to have an intimate moment with you and your partner, and it also allows for family photos before the ceremony! Having those photos done before guests even arrive lets you go right into mingling after your ceremony. This way, you have more time with everyone before you sneak off for your sunset photos!

2. Getting a list of all the different groupings to your photographer before the wedding day helps us finish photos quicker and makes sure we don’t miss anything!

3. Let people know that they’ll be in the family photos beforehand and make sure they know to be on their best behavior.

4. If there are going to be any kids in the family photos, let us know! Depending on the ages I’ll sometimes bring baby toys or some treats to help bribe kids into putting on their best smiles.

5. With kids, try your best to save any discipline until after the photos. We love working with kids and have a lot of tricks to help make the family photos fun for them! Correction can sometimes be unavoidable but if a kid has been disciplined during the photos, giving a genuine smile is usually the last thing they want to do.

Time is precious on your wedding day, and we make sure you get all of the best family photos you could want while getting you back to celebrating your marriage as soon as possible!

When large families are able to coordinate getting EVERYONE together all the way to Hawai’i, I can’t help but be impressed!

I love seeing these large extended families coming together in my sessions. Just like every family shoot, I try to get a list of names of everyone in the group and how they’re related to each other.

Then, before the session I go through and plan out all of the groupings that you might want!
A big group photo, individual families, all the grandchildren together, individual couples, etc. Often this list of groupings can get pretty long, but we make sure to capture them all in a way that is efficient but fun! 📸

This not only makes sure we get everything you could want out of your session, but allows me to quickly get through these groupings while the sunset light is at its best, while children still are happy and usually have time left over for some fun candid photos at the end!

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is that everything I do centers around celebrating family. Though every phase is special, there is nothing like celebrating a brand new life! They’re so tiny for so short, so getting to capture this sacred time is a dream 📸

There is something so special about capturing all of the little details for a wedding day.
The intention and care that goes into making sure each choice is perfect gives us an extra glimpse into who you are as unique individuals, and who you will be as a couple.
How beautiful it is that such small objects can tell so much story.
