Gail and I enjoyed our immersion in Hawaiian history and culture last Saturday at Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Park. Here are few of the photos I took including some different views of Hale o Keawe Heiau. This was during the 63rd Anniversary of the establishment of this "Place of Refuge" as a National Park.
I used to attend this event annually in the 1980's as the Staff Photographer for West Hawaii Today newspaper. It was great to revisit this special place. For more info check out the Park's website at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau.

Here's some photos I shot of the current eruption of Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano on Earth. The first shot was taken from our backyard at Puako. The others were taken from Saddle Road in the central part of the Big Island. Beautiful to see in person but I hope these pictures give you an idea of how awesome it is.

Here I am by the Kona ballfield after my new team, Kona Gold, played 7 games in two days at the Hawaii Island Mayor’s Cup Senior Softball Tournament. We won the 70 age group Championship by beating a team, mostly from Colorado, in the Championship game. Back in August we won the Hawaii State B Division Championship on Kauai. Playing softball is fun but winning is even more fun! I’m looking forward to a great 2022 season with these guys. Go Kona Gold!

I was driving home when I saw only my friends boat was illuminated by the setting sun.

I was watching CBS News Sunday while eating breakfast this morning. They were running a story about the Nordstrom family. To my surprise they used one of my photographs taken when I was hired to do a family portrait when they were in Hawaii. Wow, national TV!

Today my photography students displayed their great work. Their families were very proud of them and so am I.
