And listen, I get it.

You see enough engagement photos online of couples standing in fields an hour before sunset and start thinking that’s what your photos are “supposed” to look like.

But honestly? The best sessions are always the ones where couples pick a place that already fits their relationship.

That’s why I love bar sessions so much.

Nobody’s standing there wondering what to do with their hands because you already have something to DO.

You’re sipping drinks, fixing each other’s outfits in the reflection behind the bar, laughing too loud after the martini flight hits, stealing fries off each other’s plates, wandering downtown after because neither of you is ready to go home yet…

…yeah, you’re probably the type of couple that just genuinely likes having a good time together then!

Like the couples whose favorite memories happen during the most random little nights out.

Honestly, the best engagement photos usually just feel like you two hanging out, flirting a little, and me third wheeling with a camera lol.

Why bar sessions are the move ⤵

Because honestly… after a while I realized most couples don’t actually want photos that feel like a photoshoot.

They want something that feels like them, like real life.

And for a lot of my couples?

That looks way more like sitting in a dimly lit bar with an espresso martini in hand than standing in the middle of a field pretending they frolic outside every weekend 😭

Tell me, would you rather:
be sweating through your outfit trying to beat sunset while bugs attack you for an hour straight in 90 degree weather

OR

sit in a classy bar, music playing, drinks hitting, smelling so good you’re connected by the hip, accidentally flirting with each other the entire time?

Exactly.

That’s why I photograph couples at places like Noir, Cheval, John Brown’s Underground, Verdigris… and honestly, every session ends up feeling less like “taking photos” and more like one of your date nights.

And suddenly you’re just…
leaning into each other,
laughing louder,
trading drinks,
getting a little chaotic in the best way,
and actually having fun.

THAT’S when the photos hit.

Not because the location is trendy.
Not because the lighting is perfect.
But because you finally look like yourselves.

Because honestly… warmer usually just means you’re uncomfortable in different ways.

I get why people say they want to wait.

You’re picturing better weather, longer days, maybe a little glow, like it just feels like the right time.
But warmer doesn’t automatically mean easier.

Warmer usually means you’re a little hot, your makeup’s starting to do its own thing, your hair’s not sitting the same, and you’re trying not to think about how sticky you feel.

And even if everything looks fine… you’re not fully relaxed.

Which is the whole point.

Your session should feel easy.
Like something you’d actually enjoy doing together.

Not something you have to push through just because it’s “the right season.”

That’s why I’m always like… if you’re booking a Signature Bar Session, you really don’t need to wait for warmer weather.

You’re inside, you’ve got a drink in your hand, music playing, good lighting, AC doing its job, and you’re not worried about sweating through your outfit or rushing to cool off.

You loosen up faster because you’re comfortable.

You’re laughing more, moving more, and it actually feels natural instead of forced.

So if you’ve been telling yourself you’ll book “when it’s warmer”… just know that might not be the thing that actually makes it better.

I get why people do it, but…

after a while it all started feeling the same to me.

Golden hour, pretty light, all of that.

But also… a little hot, a little rushed, trying to beat the sun, swatting bugs, and just hoping it all comes together before you’re over it.

And I was like, yeah… this just isn’t it for me anymore.

Because what I actually care about is how it feels while we’re shooting.

And nothing compares to a bar session.

You walk in, grab a drink, music’s playing, lights are low, and within like 10 minutes you’re already more relaxed than you would be outside the entire time.

You’re sitting at the bar, leaning into each other, laughing a little louder than usual, talking in that “when the drink hits” voice.

You start moving without thinking about it.
Hands are everywhere.
You’re not asking, “what do I do next?” every five seconds.

It’s flirty, a little messy, kinda chaotic in the best way… like you’re actually out together, not just posing for photos.

That “drunk in love” energy?
That’s what makes the photos hit.

Just you two actually enjoying yourselves.

Here’s how we can work together ⤵

🍸 Signature Bar Session: This is for the couples whose date night is drinks and want both bar and city photos. The idea of photos in a bar + downtown just makes sense to you because your life already looks like this. You’ll finally have photos that really show how you laugh together after a few martinis, how you lean in close together and the way you look at each other when you think no one is watching.

🏛️ Downtown Experience: This is for the couples who would rather spend your weekend hitting up new coffee shops and farmers markets instead of the bars and nightlife. You’re a bit more of a homebody but still want unposed, natural photos that feel like your low key weekends.

💍 Weddings: This is for my engaged couples who are throwing a PARTY!! You are being intentional about everything from your venue, guest list, cocktail hour to the songs on your playlist. You want to look back at your album and feel how fun the day was from the mimosas in the morning and first looks to everyone joining the dance circle at the end of the night.

🍹 Mini Bar Session (2 SPOTS OPEN IN JUNE): This is great for the couple who don’t want the full bar package and just want want some cute photos at the bar. You don’t even have to have a bar in mind because one is preselected for you. Just show up in your outfits you’d wear to a nice cocktail dinner you’ve been dying to wear, sip on some stiff drinks and leave photos what your date nights really look like.

Deep down you two have fun together, have good taste and all you want are photos to show that.
