My friend's mom told me something this weekend that I can't seem to get out of my head.

She said that her African friends don't ask people,
"What is your first language?"
but instead they ask,
"What is your heart language."

I automatically tucked that tidbit away. Somewhere deep inside so it couldn't get lost. I've turned it over and over in my mind. I’m a bit infatuated with this idea of having a language that your heart speaks...

I think my heart language is BEAUTY.

The two gorgeous humans in these photographs? They are both amazing massage therapists in vastly different areas of the field--they both heal with their hands.

Their heart language is touch.

What a joy to photograph the beautiful way they close the gap between two humans.
Every touch is tender.
Every moment is intentional.

I was staying on top of my editing queue until my NEW computer started misbehaving.

Wrestling with technology and begging it to work is my least favorite part of being a photographer.

My favorite parts of this job?

Swishy skirts.

Chasing the sunset every night.

Capturing the essence of a human in photograph form.

Meeting new people & being invited inside.

Wildflowers.

Returning a gallery full of swoonworthy images.

Light leaks.

Going to a client's home and seeing my photos living on their walls.

I want make photos you can feel.

I want to go a little deeper than just a good portrait and shoot until I find something real.

Clothes and locations and accessories make things alot of fun and very personal but honestly? I am always hoping to catch a glimpse of the spirit of a person when I point my lens at them.

For photos like this--you never quite know what will create a moment safe enough for people to be themselves in front of a stranger with a camera. The recipe changes every time.

For Lola's photos we battled wind and rain and somehow--it made her photos feel more alive.

I'll never get tired of meeting people right where they are and making photographs of this specific moment in time.

The good news about senior photos is, you don't have to look like anyone else.

Just you.

So take the pressure off and pull your favorites out of your closet and come dressed as yourself.

We are capturing who you are at 17 or 18. Don't overthink it! Bring a handful of favorites and clothes that make you feel good and we'll pick a few different spots that call to you.

If I'm doing it right--your senior session should feel like a little bit of an adventure.
